Why does the Guvment need....

The government has never made stupid choices. They are always right.

Why you mad bro?

Not mad at all.

I'm just not going to jump all over the USDA for acquiring a couple firearms for their LEO's before I understand their job and perhaps the need for said firearms.

Just as an aside, the Government doesnt have a monopoly on stupid...

I never once said they didn't need firearms. I said they needed better firearms :D

If I was the guys in the field, I'd be pushing to have the politicians order me a few variations of the FN SCAR and back that up with the HK MP5.

Buzz, are you suffering from Man-o-pause? It would be ok to lighten up a bit...I hear it makes life better.

I would have loved to have a UMP40 or 45 available to me every house I entered in Iraq. Would have traded the M16 in a heartbeat for CQB, even if that meant slinging two weapons. The 556 sucks at putting down people hopped up on drugs big time. There's always room for a good sub machine gun platform in kinetic operations that may involve close quarters. I say get those boys some subs.

LEO's daily employment does not involve a split second change of attitude from a carpenter's nail-gun going on a wild shooting rampage, nor a computer suddenly calling to take out any programmer if a programmer dares touch it's files.
When an officer or agent puts on that vest and holsters his/her firearm, it is not for style points for Men's Health magazine... it is for the desire to enforce the laws our legislators put forth, to return home to our families each and every day and to hopefully retire.

USDA, such as Forest Service LEO's, SA's and other enforcement arms are usually far from backup, and close to that unknown potential. Not discounting other LE agencies to include my own though the potential to face a grow op deep in the thick of it or that anti guberment hermit salivating at a sickening opportunity... my hat goes off to those LEO's. An example of the Forest Service LEO is a great gig though the real lack of backup is one that defines a tougher road towards retirement.

Long winded though there is much more to a story than the Glen Beck types would like to reveal when their audience will lap up whatever kool aid is offered. Example: "Afraid of Mad Cows"? As one author would like to feed to the ones whose brains fire on one cylinder... Not directly intended towards any specific person/people here, just sharing my opinion.

/opinionated rant off... :D
