What's your set up this year ?

Rossi .410 Tuffy Turkey should show up next week. Going to top it with a Bushnell red dot and see what it likes for shells.
Hoping the factory full choke likes the Winchester Double X turkey loads or some B&P upland nickel plated lead. If not, I'll upgrade chokes and check again.
I'll do whatever it takes to stay away from TSS.

Tristar g2 20ga, vortex venom w/hs strut undertaker and TSS #9 handloads
rem 870 20 ga vortex venom w/hs strut undertaker and TSS #9 handloads

870 12 gauge with a new Hawke scope put on it.Jebs choke. It's wrapped in mossy oak Greenleaf. Shooting longboard 5 shot.

Daughter has the Stevens 301 410 with Carlson choke shooting Fiocchi tss.

I’ve got 9 turkey guns now. I just purchased 2 more. Both Henry single shots, one the turkey model, one in 410. Even though I’ve got so many my primary gun since the late 80s has been an ulti mag. Before that a 10 ga. Thinking my main gun this year might be the Henry 12. We will see
Do you have a Smoke pole ?

I have a 20ga topper single shot w/ a fixed full choke, and thinking tungsten might make that my turkey gun instead of the 12ga 870.

Question for the experienced tungsten shooters… say you shoot one out at the farther end of where you feel comfortable… do you have to pick out dozens of little pellets out of the meat?

Remington 870 with slug barrel and extra full comp n choke shooting TSS #9. I cover a lot of ground and a long barrel gun sucks when ducking through cedar thickets and it will make you cuss and dump cedar down the back of your shirt and it ends up in your butt crack

Early 90s 870 12 ga. Turkey Special. Added shursht stock and Vortex red dot in 2018

Early 2000s 870 20 ga. Black was a Youth model 21" barrel. I added Shurshot and Vortex red dot in 20 or 21. Green was a Junior model with 18.5" barrel. I added a Hogue stock and Burris FF3 last year.

All will shoot 1 5/8 oz of handloaded 9s. I started the 12 on 8.5s in 18 having shot lead 6s out of it for years. Ive switched to straight 9s since loading the 20s.

I've an 870 supermag that was my go to for years after I used the top gun for years. My boys or I one will still carry it some, likely using 3.5" LBs or Hevi. There's an 1187 Greenleaf in the safe that I lucked into a few years ago and keep saying I'll kill a bird with. We'll see if I break it out.

Ive got dad's TC muzzleloader turkey gun but ive not found time to set up. Maybe some day.

Remington Versa max, believe it’s a kicks or carlsons on the end of it. I’ve been shooting long beard xr 3.5 #6’s its whole turkey hunting career. I understand the idea behind tss but I’ve never had a problem with this combo out to 45 or so yards. Notched its 30th bird this spring with a few more states to go.

Big fan of 870 youth with 21” barrel. 870 steel receiver built like a tank. 1 5/8 oz #9 tss hand loads. Sumtoy mount with swamp fox pistol dot. To me turkey hunting is a 40 and in game, but nice to know you have a little leeway if you get excited and misjudge. After making the boy pass some birds at 45-50 yds last year we patterned a shot at 50 and 60 yds just to see what it would do. Pretty amazing what a 20 ga with TSS can do…even with a fairly open .575 choke.

Just trusty Remington 870. Have an aftermarket extra full choke and fiber optic sights. Using Federal Grand Slam 3”.

Have to pattern to see how tight your pattern is. And depends what size pellets you use. Bigger pellets are more likely to fully penetrate. It'll probably be the same as what you see with your 12ga and lead. But...

My wife started slicing our turkey nuggets thinner so she could see by holding up to the light. You do not want to bite down on TSS. It's not a problem if I put the dot on the head, but I've never been able to completely abandon holding where the feathers stop on the neck like I did when shooting just beads.

No plans to turkey hunt this year but eventually I need to go East to complete the World Slam.
I made this setup for future waterfowl seasons where a trophy bird is out of range for traditional ammo.
If I had this setup in the past I could have taken a Cinnamon/Bluewing hybrid, two red Ruddies swimming together. All were too far with no way to close the gap.
Plans to pursue Pacific Eider next season and want to have this Ace up my sleeve.

Ps. CA ammo tax is insane. 11% on top of whatever the district tax is.

I could tell my buddies thought I was in left field when I found a vendor off alibaba for TSS and bought 10 kg about 5 years ago. I think my all in cost is about $3.50 a round. Seeing $18.27 per round makes me feel justified, lol.

Factoring is gas, tags, etc. ammo for turkeys still not hugely significant, but getting more significant at those prices.

going to use my little Rossi 20ga single shot w/ some Kent turkey loads. I took it out with me last year, but the toms just never came in so it hasn’t gotten to drop a bird yet. Hopefully going to change that this year. It’s just so small and light (under 5lbs) that it’s great for carrying through the woods.
