I need some input! I have a decent number of points built up in WY for deer. Knowing how the point game works, I wont ever catch the top units and dont need to just accumulating points year on end just for the fun of it, so 2025, I will likely offload them. I’ve hunted elk, bison, mountain goat, and ewe sheep in WY, but have not hunted deer before. I am torn between units 34, 141, and 89. I realize that within those units, there is a pretty big difference in terrain and style of hunting. Just guessing, I will rifle hunt and skip the archery season, unless I dont draw any early season elk tags, or if someone says that the archery season is the time to be in one of those units! Let’s hear anyone’s opinion! Thanks yall

Wish I had some input but I'm in the same boat! I haven't drawn deer yet but have several points I would like to burn next year as well. Been searching through the draw odds and e scouting. I won't make my mind up till after the winter reports on heard health come out.

I would look at CWD ratings as well. Some units in Wyoming are ridiculously high and are still higher point units. People keep applying for them because they used to be good units. However the age class isn’t there from the die off and CWD.

Thanks yall! I would love to talk to someone that has been in 34 or 141 in the last couple of years to get their pulse on what could be expected.

I lived in Cheyenne and hunted deer in the area. It was a lot of work finding your way around private but it could be good…especially during archery. However, CWD has killed the area.

We use to be able to hunt hard and turn up at least a 170-180 class buck. Again, very hard to work around private and find huntable state land. None of the areas I use to hunt are worth a crap anymore. We would regularly see 10-15 bucks in a day and see at least one over 160. We went last year (helping a friend with the tag). We didn’t see 2 deer a day and the biggest was a tiny 2 point.

We talked with the biologist and game warden. They both said the unit is in the dumps because (in large part) of CWD and the long term effects on mature deer.

I wish I could give you good advice on where to burn your points but feel the CWD advice above was spot on. It can really decimate the mature buck population.

I'll be watching this thread as well. I'd like to also gauge where populations in Western Wyoming stand after multiple severe winters. I feel like biologists were conservative and understated many areas impact.

I don't have 10 years to wait if I want to hunt with my dad.
