I am sure this has been asked before. But what state would be your top choice for outdoor opportunities and adventures? My passions are big game, fly fishing, and upland birds in that order, and of course hiking and camping. My family and I are putting together a plan to get out of CA over the next couple years and I only want to move one more time. I am spending a fortune right now on out of state hunting excursions and want to live somewhere close to good deer/elk hunting. I thought I was set on WY, but after researching the real estate market I was a bit discouraged at the housing costs. What do you guys recommend? I was also looking at CO, but I want a rifle season longer than 5 or 9 days...and less people. I lived in NM for a few years as well, but I still had to go out of state to hunt because I couldn't get a tag every year. I would like to here any thoughts you might have. Any specific towns? How has wolves/grizz affected your hunting areas? Thanks everyone.

Montana, liberal seasons, OTC and draw, a couple blue ribbon streams, and lots of upland. Not really sure what more you need.

If I could afford to get out of CA I'd be headed to MT like I planned when I turned 18.

Idaho Falls, ID
Sheridan, WY
Logan, UT
Billings, MT
Bozeman, MT
Pocatello, ID
Kalispell, MT
Grand Junction, CO

Thats my pecking order. Those are towns that I know well and are big enough for my wife. I have been in Billings for 7 years now and I really like it. I still think Idaho Falls is the bomb because of all the things you said plus the sand dunes are awesome. If she liked smaller towns here is my list:

Lewistown, MT
Montpelier, ID
Ephriam, UT
Driggs, ID
Lander, WY
Meeker, CO

Texas, ya Texas.
