South Dakotan currently in Wonderful California despite disagreement with state policies on civil liberties, taxation and wildlife management

So tell us about this job that compelled a move to CA.
Really not that interesting. My wife and I graduated engineering school in May of 2020 when a lot of businesses were letting more people go than hiring but had a connection out here that was able to get me a spot. Pay was better at the jobs in TX we were looking at and both had pretty solid vacation time, but figured we'd go spend some time in CA since neither of us had spent much time out this way and our liabilities are low. Went into it knowing we could get jobs and move back to the Midwest once we were ready to do so, which we likely will in next couple years.

You do realize that you wouldn't be raggin on your address if you'd'a moved to Mother Texas...

Tell ya what, you two get clearances there are career jobs in NM, AZ, CO.
All three of those states are fairly high on our lists. My wife has a TS. She is from CO and I went to school there so certainly a possibility. She also has quite a bit of family that I actually enjoy in both Tucson and Phoenix but not sure I'd have as many career opportunities unless I changed industry. I spent a summer internship working in the Artesia/Carlsbad area and wouldn't mind going back to the state. My family is in South Dakota, Wyoming, North Dakota and Montana, all places we wouldn't mind going. Most all have decent outdoor adventures to be had and career opportunities for us. Lots to consider!

Good deal, your wife could step into a defense job quick. It sounds like you’re moving somewhere else regardless so great time to engineer a different industry too. Was your internship in Eddy County oil industry related? That’s still NM’s largest source of revenue and we’ve all heard there’ll be more domestic exploration so there’s that too.
