German Wire-haired Pointer wins the sporting group at Westminster Kennel Club tonight. Draathaar said to be over the moon.

I showed dogs once many moons ago. Lost all confidence in the AKC when a judge asked me into the Welsh Springer Spaniel ring...when in fact the dog I had on leash and was showing was a Britt.

They are pretty hard to get used to look-wise, especially if you have been a lab guy all of your life. They are great dogs. Energetic, work-aholics, eager to please and incredibly lovable. My GWP is now eleven months old. Attached are his first birds at 7 months old.

I love those versitle breeds! I have seen some really good ones over the years. How bad do those breeds shed "typically". I've got a 13 you Golden and a younger Lab right now, and that lab sheds worse than a cottonwood is spring!

I have a 12 year old lab and she is a shedder. Im unsure how much the GWP will shed since mine is only 11 months. I did learn that during the early season it is a good idea to shave their legs down because cheatgrass and other weeds really stick to my GWP. I have to brush him out after everytime we go out because everything sticks to his ears and his beard. It is a major pain, but he is still worth it.

I love GWP even though I've never had one. BOY has one and I've hunted over it and a previous one his dad owned. Great tempered dogs who love to hunt. Plus they look cool! If I'm ever in a situation to justify a bird dog, the wire haired, bearded breeds will definitely be getting the first look.

I've had Drahthaar's for 15+ yrs now, my current 3 yr old male looks similar to the pic above "woolly".

Best dog I have ever had, easy trainer, smart, doesn't over react, strong prey desire yet biddable....the dog hunts for me, not the other way around. Fabulous family dog, yet friendly to strangers if we are there.

And, very little shedding, much less than most dogs.
