I've hunted in the Midwest all my life but I've always wanted to hunt Black bear in Montana. My main question is what does someone who has never hunted in the western states need to know about planning, where to look for a bear in the fall season, what to expect, what to bring, etc. I know that's a broad question but any help or tips would be greatly appreciated!

I live in Pa and we only have a fall season no baiting and no use of scents
I hunt the archery bear season taking a week off and have taken 3 in 9 yrs IMO its all about food in the fall if you are near an active food you will find bears I also dont hunt right on top of the food due to fact bear seem to show up to eat past dark so im back off a trail a few hundred yrds, bear trails are kinda easy to spot
western bear may be different tho
