Went Hunting in Montana

Took a friend from back east with me on his first elk hunt. We found a petrified tree. In a cave. It was big.

We saw some amazing country.

We put a lot of miles on our Kenetrek boots.

I took some pictures of our Hoyt bows.

We saw a grizzly bear that had killed a rancher's calf and found this neat arch.

One morning we saw this bull. After waiting hours for the wind to get right, we called up this bull from the area the big bull went into. We passed him up.

Had a little black bear sow and two cubs get too close to us. I don't have closer pics, only video. Found a pretty good shed from last year and a petrified stump.

Nice photos.I liked the petrified tree pic,reminded me of the year I was hunting sheep down in Tom Miner Basin(early nineties) and came across a petrified stump/base which was eight feet across.

Small elk rub. Sanford looking at the devastation an avalanch causes. Took a day off and went fishing for our dinner. Only caught this cutthroat and a bunch of whitefish. Had to release the cutthroat and I don't like whitefish.

Had a nice hot cup of cocoa for lunch one day. Found another shed. This one was pretty chewed up. Left it for the squirrels to enjoy.

Woke up to snow one morning. It made for some good scenery and tracking. This led to my only archery kill in Montana this fall. Sanford flew home and I went back to work. Archery season kaput.

Elk hunting is too hard of work. Let's head east and look for some muleys. Found one the last evening. Sanford's 60'th birthday present.
