A Warmer Climate
So the standing temperature was right around 26 degrees, but the wind was blowing pretty good. I have no idea what it was with the wind chill, but I can tell you it was plenty cold and I spent a lot of time cleaning ice out of the line guides on my fishing rod. There wasn't any snow on the ground when we got there, so everything you see in the photos showed up after we did. Most folks have enough sense to stay inside on days like this. However, I'm of the frame of mind; "A day off, is a day off." Unless I physically can't reach where I want to go due to weather, I usually hunt or fish regardless of the conditions.

I'd say it paid off pretty well. ;)

I have to admit I enjoyed having the lake all to myself the first 4 hours.

It took a while to figure out what the fish wanted but once I did, it was fast and furious fishing. Probably the best jig fishing and hottest bite I've ever experienced. It was nice to be "that guy" for a change that was doing all the catching. Around 10:00am a bunch of other fishermen showed up. In two hours I had landed and released than every person fishing combined by quite a margin. It was just my lucky day. The only real negative was once I started catching fish right and left my little spot on the lake got really crowded. Dang fly fisherman seem to not have much concept about personal space apparently. In fact when I finished I hadn't walked 30 yards to my pick up before one of them stood in my very footprints and started fishing.

Caught a ton of fish, but sure didn't take photos of all of them. However this was the last fish of the day and a cool colored one to end on. Hope you guys enjoyed the pics.

Either you are really great at go-go-gadget arms for perspective, or those trout are salmon sized.

What a fantastic day on the water. Did your camera person hit it as big as you did? ( or perhaps your tripod came along for the ride).

kansasdad, actually I had my youngest son with me. He's only 13 and I'm teaching him how to take photos. I thought he did a pretty nice job. He will be pleased to see your comment. :)

Now that's a great way to spend a day off!!!!
Some things in life just aren't fair.....thanks for sharing!
Congrats! Hope you let your son catch some too...

Festus, I tried and tried to get the boy to fish, but he literally insisted that all he wanted to do was run the camera. Heck, I even offered to hand the rod to him and let him fight a few and he declined. I brought him his own rod to use. He made about 5 casts and called it quits and went back to the camera. Dang teenagers. Next week however I'm taking my youngest daughter and there won't be any hesitation on her part to fish. She loves it and is pretty darn good at it.

Maybe he prefers to fly fish?

Nice result BTW

Cheers

Nice pictures Troy. You won't get much sympathy from me regarding the weather, as I'm stuck at home battling influenza.

I've had some great days standing right where you were. Were you fishing your jig right off the bottom? I used to do really well with an unweighted wet fly of nondescript nature. Peacock herl and a partridge hackle, letting it drift just below the surface.

Very nice fish !!!:hump:
The walleye and sturgeon are very active up around the PN bridge too.
Some friends hooked in to 50 or 60 walleye and a bunch of sturgeon this weekend. hope to head up there in the morning. The boy has the flu so I may have to go shoot prairie dog this weekend and do fish next week...
:W:

I must admit I bought a green jig head similar to the one visible in your picture above. I can only hope to get in to some big fish like you!
