Had great time- weather was a tad hot and the bulls were quiet but hunting still beats working all to hell. I’ll throw up a a few pics and a bit of what behind em’.

Day 1

Spent the first day scouting an old burn that had good browse coming back in- lots of deer and a goodly number of bucks but stalking was tough- hot, dry, too many eyes, and too little cover.

Watched the bucks feed out around mid day- some stayed bedded out in the burn but quite a few others I noticed heading for a finger of unburned trees that crept down an adjacent ridge.

I set up a small ground blind of brush off one of the main trails heading into this bedding area and hunkered down in the tall grass to began my wait for the evening feed.

Didn’t have to wait long either as deer began moving back and forth along the trail.

I passed on a couple of small bucks and began to get a game plan for the following morning- it was time to pack in a tree stand to place on the edge of the bedding area!

This one had Moosie's name written all over it....

Couple that bounded out of the tall grass

Hiked back to the truck and met up with my partners- both of them had also seen decent bucks but couldn’t close the deal on the stalks….tomorrow it looks like a couple of more tree stands will be on the hill!

Day 2

Dawn's crack is showing and I still hunted on the way into the ridgeline…plan was to stalk anything respectable on the way in and then hang a stand before the temps pushed the deer out of the burn.

Saw these little guys on the way back in.

Jumped a few small bucks again going in and then put the stalk on a pretty decent 3x3. Got to within about 60 yards when the wind busted me and off he went. Sat down and grabbed a drink to see then ass end of this guy about 40 yards off in nearly the exact same place I had jumped two bucks the day before.

Continued up to the treeline to get my stand in before the “lunch rush”. Picked an area right before these beds…man the ground was pounded- dug down 2-4” in most spots and even had the roots of some of the trees showing….Marv’s liking it!!

Got the stand in and settled in for the mid-morning hunt. Had a friend of miller’s to keep me company for most the morning.

Just after 2pm I fugged up…..had a couple of grouse wander through and then a coyote- was messing around with my camera and turned to see this guy bustin’ my chops!

I Wouldn’t have flung an arrow at him but while I was trying for the photo op three more deer came in- the second being a shooter 4x4 with a crabby little 5th kicking on the top of one Y. They had shade in mind and were going to stand around and gab- as I tried to set down my camera and pick up and draw my bow the doe blew and stomped and the buck busted past me- sent a gold tip on its way but it sailed right behind the front legs and just under the belly as he bounced on down the ridge  Realized then I was here to hunt and not play Ansel Adams…

Had a bunch more deer come barreling up mid-ridge and wondered WTF was up. Grabbed up my glasses and spotted one of my hunting partners off his stand on the next ridgeline over….a better looks through the limbs and I could see one of my partners gutting out a buck. Sorry about the fuzzy pic- it's all the zoom I had and I was balancing out on a limb to boot- First tag filled!

Got off my stand (had to piss anyhow) and hiked on over to give him a hand. Guess he had missed a dandy buck himself- shot under at ~55 yards and then had this broken-beamed 3 point nearly run him over. Said the buck slid to a stop at 50 and he made a nice double-lunger to put him down. Not the biggest we’ve seen but Mike now can concentrate on elk!

Rest of the afternoon was pretty uneventful- couple more small bucks and a few more yotes but I kept my camera in my back and my hand on my bow this time….. see what tomorrow will bring!

I'm pretty sure he meant you're a pecker.

Great story, Marv.

Thanks guys...thought it'd be fun to drag the HuntTalkers along on this one!

Miller- I'm not implying a thing bro ;) :D Still waiting to hear about that big buck you got on....kinda?

BHR- No hall pass from the geezer home....just snuck out while they weren't looking! When you move around as little as I do they probably just thought they were missing a piece of furniture!

Hall pass or not, Ol Marv just lapped the geezer field on points...this year as well as last.
