Of all the Federal Agencies that need to be fired and rebuilt the Postal Service should have been the first. I sent the barrel from my Savage stainless bull barrel in to be fluted and the idiots seem to have lost it. It's insured but it has to be missing for 30 days to file a claim. Not happy.

Not a Federal Agency,per se.
I love my post office and the service.
I would not ship any arms stuff myself. But I'm not a gun guy either.

USPS here is horrible. First is that we get incoming mail only on Tuesdays and Fridays by a private contract service. Any outgoing mail has to be taken to town. The mail guy mostly gets the mail sorted randomly. This required us to rent a PO box in town. With the homeless moving in to the lobby at the post office they have restricted the hours and closed it completely on weekends. For all this they raised the rates to 280 bucks.
BTW, it was only a barrel and Savage receiver sent by Priority mail to a gunsmith 1 state away.

Sorry about the service.
USPS has been privatized and defunded.
Much like the FS & BLM.

How many companies do you have to buy all your pension at once.

I had a rural box but could not drive the 2 miles half the year. Bad dirt road.
Got a PO box farther but has stuff there.

UPS can barely make one delivery a week. They dump the packages at not my PO and say it was delivered.
My postmistress told me to add an address at bottom and she will get it from the other PO. Apt. 1 87829

Since UPS uses Elonias mapping system and can't find my address...................
To the MOON Ethel!!!

When I lived in town all of the services were great. Since I moved 3 miles outside of city limits UPS has been terrible. At first they kept mixing up packages between my house and the place 1/4 mile down the road with the same house number, different street.

Lately they just drop my packages off at other folks homes and the neighbors are nice enough to deliver them.

Our rural boxes get hit probably twice a month. The mail guy delivers at random times . Sometimes early morning, sometimes after dark. If you don't get the mail out quickly, it will be gone the next morning. We have a good relationship with UPS. If there's only one package for the area they will call to see if you really need it that day or can it wait. If you need it then, they will bring it right away. We have 2 regular drivers and we all have each other's cell numbers.

Ours is horrible. I often have to go to the Post Office to retrieve packages that would have fit in the regular mail box that they claim wouldn't fit in the parcel locker. Also they rarely leave me the slip saying my package is at the post office and then I sometimes get an earful at the Post Office because I don't have the slip.

Yesterday they actually delivered and empty package envelope. It had a sticker on it where they noted that it had become opened and was empty but continued to waste the time and effort to carry the empty envelope along to it's delivery.

The post office is the absolute worst. Everytime I go in there its like stepping back into the 70s, which I guess isn't that bad of a thing. I shipped a small package to a colleague on Jan. 20 in a town ~200 miles away. The package did an 800 mile triangle before getting lost. On Feb 9., it was transferred to a the recovery center, but still hasn't made it there as far as I can tell. Wish I had paid the $3 extra to go FedEx. I always cringe when someone sends me something USPS.

3 miles? Our nearest stop sign is 30 miles.
What's a stop sign?

UPS was the best for 15 years. Here. They would even come in and put dormant trees in the shade.
They fired most of the route drivers and we get mini elonias that can't find an address that UPS delivered to the day before.
Fed ex was the worst and now I have a route driver who has a brain. Lucky my free/$3300 meds get here.

Been paying extra so I get deliveries to my PO box now.
Reminds me to re order new Caribou bags via phone call.

I would not have a box on the road these days. Hell our boxes were hit daily 25 years ago.
The criminally insane run the country now.IMHO.

I'm going to guess the USPS has regional differences due to how each one is operated by the post master.

My mother-in-law is a post master for a small town post office in rural northern WI. My aunt is a mail carrier for a suburb of Milwaukee. Both have been working for the USPS for over 20 years. They both love their job and feel they get treated fairly in pay and benefits. They don't ever complain about being understaffed although I know for both of them taking vacation time can be a bit of a hassle due to ensuring there is proper sub coverage. I suppose that is true in a lot of work places though.

Point is, just based on my two personal experiences of close relatives that work for the USPS, I don't think there likely is much need for an overhaul. I also don't have any issues with our own local post office and since we live in a very rural area as well, most UPS and Fedex deliveries end up going to our post office where our local USPS mail carrier delivers them. She and her sub are great and do a great drop of delivering our daily packages as we order things almost daily off of Amazon.

We're lucky in that we have one of the world's best public mail/parcel services. It isn't perfect by any means, but is scores better than what other countries get to deal with. Please believe me when I say you do not want to replace it with an American version of Pochta Rossi....

I am having a USPS issue right now. I sent a package overnight with a guaranteed delivery Saturday. The package made it to a distribution center Friday and disappeared. The real kick…this was payment for a new (to me) Benelli O/U.

The USPS is totally lost. They claim the package was delivered to Fed-Ex but they don’t have any tracking info. This is such a pain in the butt.

Did you perhaps choose USPS because UPS and Fed EX refuse to accept gun parts from individuals? Be careful what you wish for because you may get unintentional consequences. If the USPS gets completely privatized they may choose to not accept firearms. Or perhaps you will have mail in voting handled by a company with a political agenda.
