Unit 16E Muzzleloader Bull Elk (New Mexico)

Just checked the New Mexico draw results and noticed we scored 2 non-resident Bull Elk tags for Unit 16E New Mexico Muzzleloader (Oct 14th - 18th). Would appreciate if anyone would be able to share some information on this unit. I see that there is some private land, but assume that being this is a Quality / High Demand unit there should be some thumpers in the area. Many thanks, ladd

I got my first bull there - a little 6x6. The bad news is that most of 16E is private land. You can check to see if some of the ranches there get "unit-wide" landowner tags - if so, they are open to the public. Most of the ranches there get "ranch only" landowner authorizations so they don;t have to open their gates to everyone.

But good luck and congrats on drawing a tag - I've been skunked so far, but haven't heard from NM yet.......
