I really miss William F. Buckley. Didn't always agree with him, but just listening was an education. He could send anyone to the dictionary, and those words just rolled off his tongue so smoothly.

An amazing orator...every sentence an English lesson.
I agree gentlemen

I remember reading God and Man at Yale in the 1950's and enjoyed doing so, but many disagreed with it then and probably even more now.

Walter Cronkite was also popular for several years in the 1960's /70's. Some today dont believe that the popular newscaster's from that era had opinions or expressed them, they just read what was handed to them, but that is not true.

For a lighter look at the news networks of today --Austin Cunningham --The Girls of Fox News ;)

misinformation/lies/rhetoric but now we have a truth czar.
when we point that finger a few point back

Every accusation a confession...one way street?
The origins of totalitarianism by Hannah Arendt is another book I read and used in response to a debate in college. ( probably will surprise no one here that my opinion in college was in the minority a lot of the time.) But, in light of this new "Truth" agency being recommended, it might be worth a read.

Good listen if you have the time. Still amounts to a couple of smart peoples opinions. You can agree or disagree with any or all of it.

Interesting, thanks.

There is noise on some news outlets about their new "Truth Agency" being Obama's brain child, not Bidens, which I find easy to believe--BUT, have zero knowledge of it being true. If the Republicans take back the house and senate next year ( or in Nov. of this year ) they could defund this agency, but not Homeland Security. So I would think to some degree it will continue to happen regardless of where it is done and regardless of who is in the white house. What is the "truth" might change depending on who is in the white house, but not the need for the Govt to control the "Truth"

AND, lets not forget the players in this game from foreign countries who would love to bring us down. But, isn't that what homeland security is already doing ? Are they just now giving that part of Homeland security a name? Although they ( Homeland Security ) have no way today to "delete" posts on social media platform, they see them and I bet have some influence on what is left up and/or challenged . This new dept will have the ability to delete

My grandmother is already so paranoid she refuses to have a cell phone or any other electron device ;)

Meh, we'll offer for one flavor ayslum from "truth". Truth can be mean spirited...

And maybe to redirect to Ukraine, Zelensky is now rounding up folks with anti-government posts. And that's from MSM.

"In this war on Covid 2x, racism, inequity...we must control all thought crimes"

Free speech
Oh but we have fact checkers thats right
I’m purely worried about foreign actors

I think I would be more comfortable if this was going to be under the NSA, and was just a department with a more aggressive approach to cyber crimes.

Doesn't really matter, the cube variants are first hire party loyal. If they can't be fired they get neutered by the next regime....mission statement veers.

The downside to letting corporations run America is when the corporations want to limit free speech they absolutely have the right to do that. I mean, you wouldn’t want a government-run Facebook or Twitter would you?

A riot in Baltimore preventing the reinforcement of troops to defend DC seems a little more serious than sending a tweet, but I'm not a lawyer.

Anyway, as usual, The Bee had a witty headline this morning. And, I think I am a little far from public lands, so adios to this thread.

Both government and corporations can get too big for their britches. What is really dangerous is when both start acting in unity.
