U.S. Debt Ceiling. 31.4 Trillion!

I bet it wasn't anywhere near 45 MM when the original family sold it. Of coarse back then inheritance tax was much more brutal.

None of the places you listed would provide much of living to a person actually working the land.
I'm not going to pretend I have any idea how much land is required to provide x living via ranching.

The issue for those folks is that the land has become far more valuable than the business. That doesn't change the fact, for me, that the inheritors are getting enough wealth that they will never have to work a day in their life.

Ostensibly they could sell half the property and never really need to make any money at their chosen lifestyle.

Aw shucks Warren will surround himself with plenty of backup heat and under the table politicians when the day arrives, and if he is still alive.

honestly i feel like every president for the last 20-30 years minimum has had Mr. B's hand up their back at some point or another.

Depends on how many inheritors there are.

Not so easy, ranchers through trial and error develop a system to get the most out of a ranch over generations. Sell half the ranch and you could reduce income potential by much more than 50%.

The Oracle of Omaha is a legend for capitalizing on down turned markets...
He, (BRK) held a reasonable quantity of Wells Fargo shares and was involved in ousting CEO, etc from their positions.

"If a bank gets to where it needs government assistance, the responsible CEO should lose his net worth and his spouse’s net worth,” Buffett said at Berkshire’s shareholders meeting. Whenever a situation like this arises, “it’s the shareholders who pay."

"It looks to me like Wells made some big mistakes,” Buffett said. “They incentivized the wrong behavior. I’ve seen that in a lot of places.”

“When you find a problem, you have to do something about it,” Buffett said.*

He's a long game player. Doesn't take too kindly to CEO quick fix for sake of personal bonus w/ little regard to the longevity.

He's a player that is well diversified with his shiny Diet Coke can at all earnings calls.

An impressive whale.

I mean fair but that could mean the ranch sells with zero taxes involved.

My point is that with 5MM in cash in your bank account you can make running cattle a hobby not a business.

No one expects you to be able to pass down any other type of family business no strings attached I'm not sure why a farm should have a carve out.

Family car dealership? Bank? Hotel chain?

I get the fact that folks have nostalgia about this topic, I just don't.

Pandemic caused by stupid NIH spending was definitely reckless.
We won't even converse on whether keeping keeping hospitals open during a pandemic can be classified as reckless. But how about a one-time Reckless Covid Spending Recovery tax?

buffett plays to win, who doesn't.

kinda just per your own point, re. under the table politicians.

i bet he's had more "under the table" direct dialogue with more US presidents than even some folks who have worked inside the white house.
He's great with the media for sure. Just an average Joe.🙂

regular guy buffett!

i bet he's more like frank underwood behind the curtains.

and old man munger shoots the lightning bolts from his fingers.

I meant NIH funding the cause of covid-19. That was reckless.

It’s more than funding that was just a money laundering from NIH thru Eco Health Alliance to Wuhan Lab GOF project. They transferred the GOF and research data to CCP Wuhan Lab knowing it was a Level 2 lab and a outbreak would eventually occur. And all the key players had one thing in common they hated trump. Trump withdrew funding from WHO . And what person stepped in Bill Gates to fund WHO. It’s basically a lot of people from the Bilderberg Group fingerprints on Wuhan Lab.

Not even under the table this time, but I'm glad someone with half a brain cell is having a conversation with our current POTUS.

Trump was in charge when it happen. Buck stops there. Obama was smart enough to shut down GOF research when he was President. Started back up under Trump.

Trump started it back but with strings attached to funding. They had a oversight committee. Fauchi went found a loophole and continued the GOF from US to Wuhan Lab and then funded it thru Eco Health Alliance a second party.

Yes I will give credit to Obama after a near level 4 release that scared the White House so much to close the program down. They knew a Level 4 release of a Airborne Deadly Pathogen would kill millions worldwide before mutating to a less deadly pathogen.
It’s not nice to mess with Mother Nature !
In the US all the actors are retiring and leaving the scene Collins / Fauchi and Walensky. Eco Health Alliance Peter Daszak yet to be questioned by investigators and where is the World Court ? As long as US funds WHO and these world agency get US money I doubt anyone will be held accountable regardless how many have died. We are expendable sadly !
