Tule Elk - Point Reyes Fence Removed

That’s great news but I trying to think if there is a hunting zone/unit near by for an opportunity but maybe in the future.

Yea no elk hunting of that herd but maybe in the future? Regardless its a win to let em roam and grow the herd size. Hopefully it leads to transplanting a surplus of animals to create new herds elsewhere. I doubt they will expand their range too far on their own but you never know. The land east of that area is incredibly green and open, great grazing opportunities.

Doubtful they'd ever be eligible transplant because of the history with Johnes's disease.

Maybe the Fallow deer will get loose as well.
The only I ever took away from Point Reyes was ticks.

Thats interesting, was unaware of that issue there. At least they wont be trapped in that area where its been so prevalent since its contagious. Nature will find its way, maybe that herd will get healthier and grow to have thousands of animals instead of hundreds. IF they ever had exponential growth and could transplant animals, Id guess that they would test for any diseases beforehand. Im just optimistic.

Haha the tick problem on the north coast is insane. I stopped hunting a-zone archery because of it. Hot temps and covered in ticks... no thanks.
