Trophy Room Pics

In the past I never let this happen, almost seems sacrilegious, but I gave in this year ..................... she already said it would look "cuter" with lights on the antlers.:W: We finally agreed this was enough. Merry Christmas!

lbirch, I really like "the brothers." The one on the left I recognize from some of your other pictures. Did the one on the right come from the same part of the country?

These pictures were part of the batch I had sent to "Western Hunter" magazine about six months ago. The magazine recently ran a two page spread on my trophy room and "Man Cave" in the December issue. Some of these are similar to what I posted before, but these were taken with a better camera. I still had a lot of problems with lighting.

Hope you enjoy these pictures of the main floor and basement of our home. I do my own taxidermy work.

Wow!! Now I know why you call yourself Lucky Mike.......though I have a feeling that luck has nothing to do with it. Beautiful rooms and mounts.

VERY NICE! It's a good thing you're a gifted taxidermist, you'd rack up quite the bill having all those done by someone else. Great looking animals, mounts & home.

Not as impressive as some, but getting a decent start.

Wow! Nice additions, I haven't read this thread for awhile.

Lucky Mike those are some dang nice sheep, along with the other mounts. Beautiful place. Where was the wide flaring dall from? I'm guessing TOK, or an Alaskan draw, maybe the Yukon.

We are in the middle of planning an addition to our 1500 sq. ft mansion, of which some will be an office/trophy room for me. I've used the thinner knotty pine in the past from a big box store and not been happy with the fading that happens. If you move something thats been hanging it is lighter behind the mount that was there.

So kicking around thicker car siding for the walls or even the half D log siding, like was in Much2hunts home. Much2hunt that is beautiful by the way, awesome place to walk into everyday.

Is the log siding a pain for hanging, cleaning, or maintaining in general?

I'm going with wood walls for sure, and a stone fireplace. Just not certain which wood, or design. Kicking around a miniature mt. for the goat and sheep tags I foresee in my future.:D But I'm sure the money will run out before any mountain is built.

First; All knotty pine will change color throughout the years, the more windows and natural sunlight the quicker it happens, just take it into account if you plan on applying a stain.
The log siding is real easy to work with, maintain and a breeze to clean, just remember it is demensional lumber and will not fit together perfectly.,Plan you electrical outlets and switches to hit exactly in the center of a siding board . also if you want to bring out the natural blues or reds of the wood(depending on what you buy) use a water based finish, oil base will usually cause a yellow tint. If i can be of any help, pics etc, let me know.

Here is what I have been putting together...

"Where was the wide flaring dall from? I'm guessing TOK, or an Alaskan draw, maybe the Yukon." quote (passinthru)

Passinthru, thanks for the compliments on my sheep mounts. Answer to your question is that the wide flaring ram came from the Nutzotin Mountains, adjacent to the north/east edge of the Wrangells. This ram is one of my prized trophies and a great example of why a guy doesn't want to get all caught up in measurements and score. This ram scores somewhere in the 150's. I honestly don't remember what it scored. I didn't shoot it because of it's scoring qualities. I shot it because of how cool he looks with the wide (32") flaring, more than full curl look. The picture below will give you an idea of how shallow his curl is and how slight his bases and subsequent mass are. His horns are each a hair shy of 38" and his bases are less than 13". By comparison, the other dall ram in my trophy room, which I took in 1976 when 7/8 curl was legal in Alaska, Scored 160". He is a ram that would have been a "booner" in a couple more years. His bases are 14 5/8" with 37" horns and only 6-years old. He was taken from the same general area as the wide flaring ram.

Rifle is a pre-64 model-70 264 Magnum with a 26" barrel.
