Trapping Thread 2024/2025

Nice, job getting after the fur. It won't surprise me if your top $$ item is a fox they are beautiful. What a difference a few years makes though. Those Mule deer are fantastic and need the cobwebs knocked off em.

With the low fur prices the Raccoon population as in most ares has sky rocketed.
I figured the ground nesters around here needed some assistance .
Just on my 83 acres.
36 raccoons
8 opossums
6 skunks
I'm sure I've created a vacuum , so after a short break I'll be back at it !View attachment 366274View attachment 366275
Awesome! How many traps were you using generally?

The first few days just 2 dps near my deck and bird feeders, a 220 conibear cubby in my shed.
then a max of 11 dps for about a week . This last week with 6 dps it's has slowed down to about 1 critter about every other day.

That’s pretty impressive!

Sad day here in Missouri.
I get to pull all my traps until the next season opens.......

Sitting at 116 animals since Jan 1st.

Next thing that opens is ground hogs after turkey goes out and I have some properties lined up.
Other than that I have a while before raccon, possums, coyote, skunk, bobcat, otter, beaver, and muskrat come back in.....

I can't over-state how much getting rid of nest raiders and thinning out bobcats and coyotes has helped our turkey population. We have pulled 6 long beards off of the family farm in the past two weeks and there are several more and a ton of hens. I honestly believe it is because we started trapping.

Anecdotally, wiping out the raccoons (and the guy who also hunts my little slice of heaven stopped feeding corn 365) has helped a increase of young of the year birds making it to jake/jennie status.

I'm hoping to get into trapping and predator hunting myself after not being able to do anything outdoor related except running around the neighborhood and walking the dogs for some time. Can't wait to see what else comes up in this thread
