Trapping Thread 2024/2025

Cold weather can be hit or miss for coyote snaring. We have had -40 for the last couple days. Checked today and picked up two but was so close to a good check. Had four refusals damn full moon. One good coyote today and one with mange. All repaired and ready for some more

My son and I went out and set in a couple muskrat huts this afternoon. Having never opened one up before, it was fascinating to see inside. Cut a whole with the ax, got the trap in the cavern, and closed it back up.

5° today and -12° tomorrow. It’ll be fun to go check.

Been awhile since I have chopped huts open! Have fun!

Well my son called this morning very excited. Dad I got one! I can see it bouncing in the pasture! He finally trapped his first coyote!. He did these sets all by himself and has been running them for 12 days. Getting up early running the line in the dark before school. He used a hay set with an MB 550 Hiawatha valley and Cavens violator 7. I am super proud of him. I have never trapped a coyote so he has beat the old man. I am sure this will be the first of many. He is getting it tanned a real nice female. Wish I could of been there with himIMG_4779.jpeg

Season will be here before u know it. Working on some older northwood #2 offset traps. Replacing the old springs. And 4 coil base plate and replace the old chain. With new # 3 machine chain. Add 3 mb swivels and laminate the jaws. Work the pan and dog over. Have a good coyote trap. Here Season is open yr around on private land. For coyotes bobcat, coon, oppsum, skunks, grey and red fox.
There are a crazy amount of rabbits where I live. Just set a bunch of snares so hopefully will get something soon!

Hopefully you got the huts all closed up good so they don't freeze in!
Man, we trapped a lot of rats during the winters in college. Had a lot of fun doing it.

Think I found some coon tracks. What say you ? Bout the length of a bic lighter

Well another first for the boy. He caught what he’s been after this season we have lost around 100 chickens in the last 3 years. I have shot 2 foxes but the boy picked up his first one today. It was in the remake he made from catching the coyote Monday. Pics aren’t the best but he was by himself and had to get to school for a scholar bowl tournament

We had a big blow the other day so I moved quite a few snares around today and back further into the bush. Coyotes killed a deer about 120 yards from my bait. Put out a roadkill deer and hopefully we can have another good check in a few days. 11 coyotes and 2 fox off this bait now

Man seeing all your guys pics makes me want to plan an out of state trapping trip. I’d love to trap out west sometime

I’m losing my mind in a formal class right now.
I set my first coyote/bobcat sets last night and I have this going on….

That is exciting. Though I am not in favor of cell phone transmitting cameras for hunting, for trapping they are a great tool, and arguably increase the ethics of trapping by reducing the amount of time an animal is in a trap. Getting texts like this at 3 morning made it hard to go back to bed and wait for daylight or in the middle of a work day, wait to get off work.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you find when you finally make it to your trap!
