Picked up 3 more yotes to go with the bobcat last week...caught 4 yotes in a 20 yd stretch of old logging road.

12 coyote, 10 crappy beavers, 9 rats, 3 otter and a mink headed to FHA tomorrow. I have 83 or 84 more beavers in the shop. Hoping after the first auction it won’t be such a guessing game and I’ll hopefully know where to sell the rest of my beavers at

This afternoon in a weasel box I trapped my first ermine, which my son named Ernie. Cool little critter.

Hello. I am new to the forum and new to Montana.... Sort of. Just moved back after being away for 10 years. Sure does seem a lot different, but that may be a topic for another time and place. Anyhow, I like fishing, hunting, idling my 7.3 power stroke and most recently, trapping. Working with non game species and wire snares ( because the laws and regs are easiest to understand ) and wanted to join a forum where I could get advice, knowledge and support. You all seem to be doing great trapping by your photos and I look forward to conversing with you and sharing information. Thank you.

Caught my third and last bobcat this morning, because I pulled all my traps after dispatching her. Another female, but my largest so far. An addiction for life to be sure. A friend described bobcats as “mythic”, and it’s an adjective that works. Incredible animals.

I’ll definitely be spending a large portion of the next year scouting, because that was as fun a part of the process as the actual trapping was this year.








About 300 yards up the road I had a weasel box in a culvert. It’s one I caught an ermine on. Somebody took it and stomped the shit out of it. Busted it to pieces and threw them in the brush. They wouldn’t have known about it if their dog didn’t likely smell it and go poking his nose under the culvert. I can see their tracks in the snow. More irritating than anything, but I wish I had a camera on it so I could seek comeuppance.

Incredible. Thank you. He was skirting the side of a ridge well away from the river but across the road and up the hill from a creek. I didn't know they roamed such a distance from water. Thank you.

I’ve been trying to remember how to trap raccoons in winter. My summer sweet baits weren’t working. Switched up my bait/lure and the first night I had fresh tracks near a few of my sets. Second night I had two snapped traps and one full one.

Wow awesome. I only ever hunted big game so patterning and luring any of these critters is new to me. Good catch
