Trapping Thread 2024/2025

It’s been tough going here. For some reason no otters have come through yet and all of my eggs are in the otter basket right now.

I’m pulling my traps here tomorrow and loading up to head up to northern MN next week. I built some bobcat boxes last weekend and I’m going to spend 8 days trying to catch my first cat and/or fisher. I may set otters/beaver traps if a good opportunity presents itself and I’ll be jigging for walleyes in the evenings.

12 snares set on my coyote bait today and a fresh road kill fawn dropped off. Looks like I will need to bring a few more snares with me next time. I’m already looking to checking them in a few days lol

Lots of snow this year on the line! Have to use snowmobile, makes it more interesting!

Camp totals so far are 5 marten, 2 fisher!

Always look forward to this time of year with a good group of guys!

Eastern KY trapping started today. Put out a bunch of dogproofs to start getting the possums and raccoons and a few coyote sets. Will put out a few more each evening while I walk the trapline. I enjoy this time of year. My Brother in Law got a really nice Bob last night. Has been slaying the raccoons. I’d like to know how many turkey nests are saved with each nest robber trapped.

Was out resetting everything after the freezing rain and decided to make a calling stand. I have called coyotes for almost 23 years now and today I called in my first bobcat that I know of. There isn’t much that gets me rattled anymore shooting at an animal so I’m blaming the extreme shaking I had on account of me sitting in a snow bank 😂. I haven’t been that rattled in a long time. Cat came flying in to under 50 yards tail twitching and everything.

It’s been a tough trapping trip so far. The weather has been warm with rain/sleet/slush. Not much has been moving but I did find a few cat tracks the day I set before it warmed up. No fisher tracks at all. Temps plunge tonight so hopefully that helps.

I did finally get on board today with a big otter.

On the plus side, the fishing has been decent in the evenings.
