Just why? I have a couple friends who work for the TPWD and have had plenty of dealings with them. Always found them to be professional and one of the better run state game agencies. Not sure what's the actual end goal here but don't think it'll be beneficial to Texans or Texas wildlife.

Ax-grinding.

"In one of the more brazen acts of the 2025 Texas legislative session, a lawmaker who breeds high-fence deer has introduced a law to abolish the state fish-and-game agency that also helps regulate the breeding of high-fence deer.

"Texas Rep. Pat Curry (R-Waco) says his proposed legislation is an attempt to reform and improve the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, an agency that he claims has “lost its way.” It’s one of several bills filed in the Texas legislature that seeks to overhaul the state’s management of Chronic Wasting Disease and appears to be written explicitly for the Texas deer breeding industry."

I agree with you about it being one of the better run game agencies. Then again, I don't raise pet deer.

Keep in mind a few months ago a truck and trailer carrying multiple trophy bucks was pulled over by Texas DPS officers and later checked by local game wardens. It was found the deer were being illegally transported to deer breeding facilities in South Texas, which led to violations at additional deer breeding ranches in Texas. While significant fines were paid, I'm sure they were a fraction of the revenue-producing potential the deer that was lost to the breeders. Now Sid Miller, the Texas Ag Commissioner has jumped onboard and is supporting the legislation for its cost savings potential, not to mention how deer breeding would be governed by the same department that provides oversight for breeding livestock. If it wasn't already obvious that Texans raise and harvest wild deer much like cattle, it should be now.

For those interested, the scene where Spencer reveals the caliber of his rifle begins at the 11:10 mark of Episode 5.
