The forecast called for damaging hail and the possibility of tornadoes. They were correct. For the first time in several years the sirens going off were not for a drill.

My youngest took this picture from the backside of the storm

And this picture was from her in-laws backyard.

In the video link above, the tornado seems to be hitting an apartment complex, and from there, it went on to a “direct hit” on the Andover YMCA.

Mrs kansasdad commented that this was an extremely short notice warning from siren to actual touchdown.

Another friend was out to dinner, and he said that every cellphone in the joint all rang the alarm simultaneously

Watched this storm develop from just south of Wichita as it moved east. So far just structure damage in Andover, thankfully at this point no reported injuries.

This is the first time my boy has had the experience of a tornado siren and actually heading to the basement. On the way down he repeatedly said he wants to move back to Wyoming.

Some random thoughts about last night: Boy Scout motto: BE PREPARED

I had both cars full of gas in case this was gonna be a "big one", as I've had the experience of trying to buy gas when a whole town was out of electricity following a storm outage.

Flashlights were ready to go downstairs with us when we went. I even had recharging units fully charged and ready to go for our phones/iPad. In our basement we have a battery backup for the wifi/cable tv modem which allowed us to continue on wifi even after the electricity went out.

I made sure that I was wearing some good tough shoes as we went downstairs. Way too many videos of storm aftermath with people in flimsy shoes, or worse, barefoot, crawling through debris.

The base of the cloud that had the tornado seemed to be higher off the ground compared with most tornadoes.

I’ve lived in Kansas my whole life I’m still just in awe of tornados.

I'll be driving thru Kansas in a few days, I hope I DONT see anything but clear skys

Wow, thanks for posting. Talking to our daughter in Manhattan last evening, and she, said, Dad, we better go, sky looking pretty green.
