When I was sick, or just called in sick, during grade school or high school, I would go down into the black and cozy hole that was my folks’ basement and put in the tape for Lonesome Dove.

At 6.5 hours, I feel like it was ahead of it’s time in bringing long-form story telling that we all expect in quality television nowadays in the age of streaming. The show also got me to read the book as a teenager, and I remember feeling the powerful emotions McMurtry leaves ya with when I finished it.
