Thoughts on taking my 70 year old Dad Elk Hunting

I am in the same situation and posted a few stories about the hunts I just took my 78 year dad on. If your ok with paying for guides then call a lot of them as some will have what your looking for and others only say they do but after a few minutes of talking to them they don't. If your dad truly wants an animal and isn't just along for the ride like my dad is then a guide with horses or mules might be the answer. Some will know right where to drive to so very little hiking needed. Even the drop camp guide might get you to where you want to be to have fun just spending time together. But if he prefers DIY and needs better mobility, as stated before you don't always have to be miles into the back country to find elk. There are some areas where you can be effective at road hunting with just hiking away from the truck a few hundred yards or half mile at a time to glass over ridges then get back in the truck and move to the next ridge. Hope you find what your looking for. good luck.
