Thoughts on Hunting Related License Plates

It’s been on my todo list to get a wildlife one because of funding. We have a few different specific ones
Funny story....when I was working as a tech on the Louisiana black bear project a lady called in and reported a bear well outside of the population areas. Not common but it happens. Well she kept asking/demanding the biologist what we were going to do about it.
Lady: I am a member of the black bear club, and expect you do to something about this.
Biologist: The black bear club?
Lady: Yes, I have a black bear licenses plate and am a member of the black bear club.

So apparently with each plate you can pick which club you want to belong to.

We have the same deal here in washington, and $10 from each plate and tab renewal for them goes to wolf conservation. 🤮
Can you elaborate on that?

I talked to our local biologist that was able to purchase additional GPS collars for a bighorn sheep study using license plate dollars.

As signed by the Governor, SB 5193:
•Increases the state's personalized license plate fee by $10, effective Oct. 1, 2013, with the proceeds to support WDFW's efforts to monitor wolf recovery and prevent wolf-livestock conflict in collaboration with farmers, ranchers and local governments, and to compensate livestock owners. The Department of Licensing estimates the fee will raise more than $1.5 million during the upcoming two-year budget cycle.
•Allows WDFW to compensate livestock owners for their losses at the current market value of the animals.
•Permits compensation regardless of whether livestock owners were raising the animals for commercial purposes.
•Revises other elements of state law to make it more consistent with the state's 2011 Wolf Conservation and Management Plan as adopted by the state Fish and Wildlife Commission

I believe its all vanity plates, not just the wildlife ones.

Gotcha, so it's not specialized plates it personalized plates (which could also be specialized). However, I'm still not seeing what you're saying about the $10 going to the wolf conservation program in the law. That Senate bill, as passed, only said the following with regard to license fees:

And the dispersing RCW says:

What am I missing with regard to direct spending on wolves?

Would you rather it was only funded by sportsman dollars? Looks to me like no one is forced to pay anything into this fund. Can't make some folks happy......

Read broadly, it doesn't specify it must be spent on wolves. Interpreted from one's own perspective, it doesn't specify what it must be spent on, ergo it must all go to woofs.

Yeah, I was trying to be mildly polite and allow an out. The law is actually very clear, both the final substitute bill and the RCW, the additional $10 is not explicitly spent on wolves.

Unfortunately, I live just north of Seattle.

I won’t put anything remotely pro fishing, hunting, guns or especially non socialist/progressive on any vehicle. It is asking for trouble and will be a target for vandalism.

An immigrant friend of mine had U.S. Flags on his truck, just for fun. Anyway, someone assumed he was a Trump supporter and lit the flags on fire, probably would have burned the truck if they could have.

Hatred and self righteousness run high in these parts.

No different that putting an Obama sticker on your truck and parking it in North ID for a spell.

I will never remember to get the wildlife conservation license plate. Easier to cut a check to WYDOT and keep my regular tags.

I had a Chicago Cubs hitch cover on my pickup and it drew too much attention for my liking. I don't want to give anyone having a bad day a reason to pick me out of the crowd. I keep my obnoxious bumper stickers on the beer fridge.

I have had one for years, relating to bowhunting, never had any issue and it been all over the country with me. If anything it has been an positive thing as it has help initiated many pleasant conversations with people that i wouldnt have had otherwise.
