Without the roar of an ATV, nor the stink of a Welfare Rancher's cow, I was able to enjoy a weekend off the "beaten" path.

This lake is at 7400 feet, and we still found drifts of snow greater than 5 feet deep, on the 12th of July

Here is the lake --->

The lake had nobody else there.... Just My Own Private Idaho....

Here is a slightly different angle of the Lake... ----->

I did try a bit of fishing...

Here is a "typical" catch out of Idaho's high mountain lakes.

Probably 3 out of 5 casts..

resulted in similar.

It is big country..far in the distance, you can see an old burn, but the place is alive and well, and it didn't even have to be "Salvage Logged" to stay healthy..--->

And finally, when in My Own Private Idaho, sometimes I stop to smell the flowers... --->

Tell me again why I need a Welfare Rancher's cow in there??

Looks like nice spot, gunner. Glad to hear you had no trouble finding a flat spot without cow shit to throw your bag.

Oak

Awesome pics gunner

Where is Idaho is this?

I was up in the pan handle last season, around Pinehurst, and Smelterville.
Quick Draw

WOW... All I need is a Chainsaw to cut a 4-wheeler path and Then we can ALL enjoy it !!!!! 7400 ft ? WOW, A bit to high up for me to climb !!!! I'd spill my LAte' and break a sweat !!

THat's AWSOME....Wish I was there now instead of here where it's 97 degrees at 5:00 in the morning..

cool.gif

7400 feet?? You call that a hike?
wink.gif

Beauty of a place! I'm thinking of enjoying your Private Idaho this weekend as well!!!
biggrin.gif

Oak,
It is interesting how tolerable it is to set your tent up in deer dung and elk crap, and how intolerable to even see a cow pie in the woods.

Nut,
The beauty of much of Idaho is that without the ATV's and cows, this place will look exactly the same next year and the year after, and the year after.... I'll keep fighting to make sure it looks like that when you get out here "someday soon".

Elkhunter,
I thought of your pictures, as this is some of the flattest country I ever see Elk in. I wouldn't Elk hunt here, as it is too open, too flat, and would likely have too many people.

QuickDraw
If I post wher it is the following will happen:
Moosie will cut an ATV trail up there,

MD4Me will ride her ATV up there.

Ithica will post a link to a newspaper article on the illegal ATV trail,

Paul, Whitedeer, Michael, TenBears will all post to tell Ithica that he is wrong.

Elkchsr will say "great post"

Ithica will remind the detractors of some long ago debate

MD will explain how she used to enjoy lakes like that, but doesn't think we need any more lakes built
confused.gif

Elkchsr will say "great post"

CJCJ will comment on that there are illegals in Arizona.

Oak will explain to MD the Gunner didn't say we needed to build more lakes
rolleyes.gif

Moosie will drop in an make an unrelated comment about small farm animals

CJCJ will comment on that there are illegals in Arizona.

Elkhunter will ROTFLMAO to Moosie's comments
Elkchsr will say "great post"

CJCJ will comment on that there are still illegals in Arizona.

Buzz will provide data to similar lakes in Montana, that now have been seriously degraded by one of the resource extraction groups.

Paul will challenge Buzz's education

Elkchsr will say "great post"

CJCJ will comment on that there are illegals in Arizona.

I'll make a smart a$$ comment.

Paul will accuse me of partaking in illegal recreational drugs.

Elkchsr will say "great post"

CJCJ will comment on that there are illegals
in Arizona.

1-Pointer will let post that there is actually value in all public lands, if we just let the professional land managers and scientists manage the land.

So Quick Draw, by not posting where the lake is, I have altered destiny and the future, and saved this thread from the above posts...

(Did I miss any of the SI regulars? I meant to offend/poke fun at all of us...)

Danr...
It was still warm up there.... At 3 in the morning, when Nature called, it was incredibly warm outside.... It was a sleep on top of the bag night....

Gosh... I hope Quick Draw finds the response to her post.... Now she has to wade thru all this other stuff, just to find out the lake is South of Pinehurst, and North of Murphy...
wink.gif

Moosie "GREAT POST " Thanks you added a lot to this...
tongue.gif

Flipper,
Do I have a future as a photographer or a narrator?

Moosie,
You were certainly "sick" with the last Sheep I saw you with...
eek.gif

Ithica,
Don't tell them that I sometimes like Tofu.. (shhhhhhhh)

DM423
The place is "out West", just past Buffalo..

Del,
I thought you only chased "trash fish"? These are all cold water fish...
fight.gif
Anytime you come up and stay with Moosie, I'll take you fishing...

1-Pointer,
I couldn't leave you out, 9/10 times, you are the only voice of reason, and you also have a bit of the irreverant sense of humour... The Rainbows are kind of interesting people. Two years ago they were up in Bear Valley, and I was headed to Stanley, thru the middle of them. I would probably not been too concerned about them, as the FS allows lots of "large groups", and they all do damage (but nothing compared to
Welfare Rancher'scattle), but the area they picked was right on some spawning creeks for wild Salmon. The store in Stanley was limiting the number inside at a time, trying to reduce shoplifting. I guess they are kind of like the Mumps, once you have them, you are immune for awhile, as they seem to rotate around to other places. You should have a reply to your PM.

cjcj,
This place is close to heavan. I read an article about Idaho and religion, and that even though we have a large population of Mormons and Catholics, the % of people attending church is below nation wide averages. The theory that was being proposed, by a Catholic Bishop and a Theology professor is that many people in Idaho are close to the "Creation", and can see the "Creation" by stepping outside, and don't need to go to some house of worship to be close to the "Creator". Kind of like the Native American types of worship, of Mountains, and Rivers, and Animals.... I know that waking up next to that lake on Sunday Morning was far more preferable than sitting on some wooden pew...

BHR/Paul,
South of the Selway, South of the Salmon.... I never get up to the Selway, for some reason... just too far up, or I have to pass too much good territory to get there.
I do have a scouting trip up toward the Selway area for Whitetails soon. I have a theory on where to find a 160+ on public lands....
cool.gif
We should meet up, I'll bring the Tecate and you can bring the Old Milwaukee...
