So, what can this new dangled contraption do that my old Remington 700 classic 30-06 can’t? To the point, what’s the point?

Nothing. In the hands of the right shooter with the new powders and bullets the ol girl hangs in there. mtmuley

So, what can this new dangled contraption do that my old Remington 700 classic 30-06 can’t? To the point, what’s the point?

A standard 06 with 180HH prob around 2800fps. My new fangled 06 tosses same bullet 300fps faster. If you don't shoot longer ranges, nothing. The range of the new fangled is significantly longer so yeah, it has a point. The point is also taking a standard cartridge and enhancing performance. Another added plus is shooting heavies. I am working on 199HH load that I expect close to 2900fps. Now that is a major league thumper.
