Well, it seems like things are winding down around here and app season is rolling around soon. Guess I can go ahead and start this up and get the ball rolling. First off, special thanks to @Addicting for coming up with the idea and running with it. Tony has been a great friend and has helped us out in many different ways. I also want to thank the several members that went above and beyond in their financial help during our troubles here in the past couple years. I won't name you here, you know who you are and you made a difference in how we made it through. And finally, I want to thank each and every one of you who donated money, gifts, PMs, well wishes or words of support. It meant a lot to me and my family. So,

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

Now. Let's talk hunting. I'm not 100% sure on who all is going into the group draw effort. I have 1 confirmed with me but unsure if there was another or not. Guess I'll find out soon enough.

Elk camp. @Wildabeest has donated his place for us to use as a base camp. He even bought a Rivian pickup and helped keep my daughter gainfully employed! ;) My count right now for people who will be in camp is 4. I know it's early for lots of folks and plans change but if you plan on being there next fall sing out! It would be nice to have a rough head count going in so I can figure out just how many dozen chocolate chip cookies to bring along for the table! I've been told they're pretty OK. It will also help out with meal planning and whatever else that I have no clue about but am about to learn.

I've been doing some shooting with my 270 getting back into rifle shape. After putting a new scope on it seems like it has potential to be a pretty good shooter. Now I just have to do my part. I stocked up on practice ammo to get started with and am about ready to start shooting some handloads that I was sent for the hunt by @Benfromalbuquerque . Thank you, sir! I have a 300 yard range set up behind my house but have to take it down before the guy that rents the farm gets out there in the spring.

Trying to lose some weight and get in better shape is my current issue. Spent part of this summer and fall riding a bike and dragging a weighted sled around the backyard. I will say my knee is feeling halfway normal but I have been known to do something once in a while to remind me it's still there. I'm heading out later to pick up a used elliptical machine to use this winter while it's not great to do much outside. Climbing stairs only gets me so far and this looks to be easier on my old broken-down body. :ROFLMAO: At least I can watch TV using it and have a distraction from how tired I get.

So. Here we are. I really do appreciate all you folks have done to make this happen. As I've said before, I don't know that I did anything special to make it happen but it seems like that is exactly the reason it is. Thanks.

Now, let's get this thing going!

Following Dave, should be a great time for you guys. I know you've got most of what you need and so does @Addicting. But if you need anything or to borrow anything I'm a hop and skip. Wishing you luck!

Looking forward to it Dave! Hell, between the group of us, we should be able to put together enough good body parts to make at least one decent hunter. 😝.

For those curious, we’ll be hunting the southwest part of Wyoming. I’ll leave out the unit number so it doesn’t get blown up after Dave kills his monster bull and posts pics here 😂.

OK, group and points are settled. Ready for applications to open. The hunters have been determined for this event. Some helpers, packers (hopefully needed!), camp cooks, might be great to have as long as we don't overrun the space we have in camp! Anyone interested can PM myself or @Addicting for more info and to keep it from becoming a free-for-all! Sorry, but I/we don't want to overstep and ruin the hospitality being provided by @Wildabeest or blow out the area with an army of people swarming in! I would love to have 20 guys there but that wouldn't be fair to him! We will need a proper head count by mid-summer I guess so we can plan the final details.

The guy selling the elliptical forgot all about me today! All set to get it tomorrow and found out he's only about 4 miles down the road. Pretty handy! Maybe tomorrow I'll start working up a sweat.

For what it's worth I've had good luck with backwards walking especially up hills to help relieve knee pain. You can also use a treadmill powered off for the backwards resistance. "Knees Over Toes Guy" on the internet, seems kind of hokey, but it's 100% helped me. Doesn't feel great to start but I can really tell a difference when I've been good about walking backwards vs. not.
