I got a new pup in January of 2022. I posted a few pics of his training progress over in the Hunting with Hounds section. Wasn't sure whether to post this in the Hounds section or Feathers section. I spent a lot of time dog training over the summer preparing for the upcoming duck season. It would be my pups first season as well as my 10 year old son Drake's first duck season. So excuse me while I brag on them both with some pics. I worked on obedience training and basics at first (both for the boy and the pup). We went through force fetch and the whole process of leading up to handling on blind retrieves. Drake also helped a bunch with throwing marks. Finally season came and Drake and Rex were ready to go duck hunting. On the first hunt Drake got his first duck, a mallard Drake and that was also Rex's first wild bird to pick up. By the end of duck season Rex picked up 83 birds including 10 big Canada geese. Had a great time hunting with friends a few times but mostly hunted with my 2 favorite hunting buddies, my son and daughter. I really enjoyed watching Rex learn about hunting. He learned to watch the sky for birds. He chased down a few cripples. Watching him wrangle with big geese was fun as well.
