I don't own a suppressor/silencer - yet. But I find the whole NFA regulation/restriction unacceptable. I object to the idea that one has to submit to all of this NFA process to own/use a suppressor. This article covers what are thought to be incremental steps towards removing suppressors from the NFA altogether. As such I found it interesting. IF you support it, you might want to contact your congressman's office, since there is expected to be resistance.

Silencers are currently regulated under the National Firearms Act (NFA). Such items require a $200 tax, with a Byzantine, intrusive application process, including a photograph, fingerprints and a wait time of several months to over a year to accomplish.

The Hearing Protection Act (HPA) would move silencers/suppressors out of the jurisdiction of the NFA and regulate them with the same standards as rifles or shotguns. Brandon Maddox has strong opinions about the HPA.

Would love it - don't see it happening as long as the filibuster survives. And even if filibuster dies, more likely we go the other way if you look at very few times GOP has had house, senate and POTUS at the same time in the last 100 years.

I do not see this EVER getting 60 votes in the Senate to avoid a filibuster. The GOP will die on a hill of cutting taxes long before they go to the mat on this issue.

I worked in an oil refinery for 28 years. Among other things they are loud. It was quite normal to wear double protection, ear plugs and ear muffs. That is what I do when shooting a rifle at a range. When I hunt, I do not use hearing protection.

I agree that solving problems by either party doesn't drive money or votes as much as keeping the problems.

But let's be clear - they haven't had 60 votes in the US Senate necessary to clear filibuster in over 100 years. And SCOUTS made major decisions in favor of the 2ndA in the last several years.
Yes. They have not had a supermajority. A worthy point of clarification.

The original point remains though - it wasnt a policy focus.

Mostly it was a joke with a touch of truth, but it was comical how the HPA couldn't even get a hearing in the 115th.

Hearings are for two things. Bills that will move, and due to lack of 60 senators it wouldn't. And for bills that require "tough votes" for opposing party members in swing districts -- and not enough steam about this bill in swing districts to make a difference. Lots of bills that have less than 60 senators never see a hearing.

So if suppressors were significantly easier to get wouldn’t the price of them go down a bunch as well and help dissolve the industry of specialized suppressor sellers. Maybe the manufacturers and dealers kinda like how things currently are…

My point is that this is the kind of issue politicians write to their base about how much they support it. It will never actually come to a vote on the floor.
I agree - but also, if we are honest about the numbers, they are selling us the Brooklyn Bridge so if we keep buying it we have to bear some responsibility.
