Thank You Veterans!

"In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields."
- Lieutnant-Colonel John McCrae, Canadian Expeditionary Force

I was introduced to "In Flander's Fields" around 25 years ago, and really didn't appreciate its significance until the last few years. I too try to share it with as many people as I can. Thank you for sharing it today! Thank you to all who took the opportunity to serve and to sacrifice, and a huge thank you to the spouses and families behind the scenes that serve right along side of them.

Grew up reading Flanders Field every time I was at my Grandparents house. Framed embroidery by my Grandma. Grandpa was a doughboy.

Never break the faith of this great country.
My wife and I have been fortunate to travel quite a bit the past few years. We've been close to Belgium a couple times, and tried to work in a visit to Flander's Fields. We will definitely make it one of these days. It'll be awesome to be on that hallowed ground! You're exactly right, we can not forget the sacrifices that have been made or the core of what has made this nation great.

Veterans taught me more than I can sort out during my college days after Vietnam and especially during my time as trauma therapist @ the VA clinic in Colorado Springs. In an era when less than 5% of our population has served, it is vital to honor and acknowledge the service and the sacrifices of veterans and their families. For the sake of all those, I hope the VA system is improving @ meeting their many needs.

Sask,
In honor of our Northern brothers and sisters who gave all. To Canada's Remembrance "Day" that concluded this past weekend. A fellow RCMP friend shared a red poppy I wore on my uniform while stationed in your country. He lost his brother.
