On my way home, I always drive home the same way and there's a particular park I always pass. I grew up dove hunting and mourning dove are all over the place here, including the ring neck. On my way home in January, I'm looking around because there a short 2nd season for dove. I see a flock of black birds and I swear on my mother, it was a covey of ALL BLACK mourning dove. I've never in my life seen them. I got close and could see the regular mourning dove spots in darker black. Amazingly beautiful birds. Some of the most beautiful dove I've ever seen. Maybe about 25-30 of them. I thought about stopping and taking pics, but decided I'd probably see them again. I have not, and now I'm thinking I imagined the whole thing.
I know what blackbirds look like, crow, magpie, etc. I've been hunting dove for decades and I know what they look like. I know what I saw, but they haven't been back. I was thinking maybe a private breeder. I don't know. Anyone ever seen one?
