Technology and Tags/Licenses

Kansas is creeping there. Currently all paper licenses/tags, but we do allow electronic check-in for deer that will be transported across state lines (we don't have to check in deer, turkey)

Mostly helpful in determination of any deer/antlerless only deer.

What I think would be awesome here in South Dakota, if they would somehow let you prove that your pheasants were all roosters, so that you could breast them in the field. Currently you have to leave a leg, a head, or a wing attached to the meat until it makes it into your home. If you could just snap a picture and prove it was a rooster and then breast it out that would be slicker than snot IMO.

I agree. That would be great for a lot of different birds and animals. We have to keep parts of birds here from dove up to turkey. It’s a pain at times. Same with deer. Imagine just being able to take a few pics and carrying out only what you needed. No more worry about packing out a head or proof of sex attached to leg.

I can see why it wouldn’t work for some areas and species considering CWD and such.

Like a couple of people have said Oregon started it this year. Mostly as a money saving effort. It seems to be working fine. I do know some people had trouble early on in creating a profile on the game department web site. Mostly old farts like me. You can still get paper license and tags which is what I do because I don't even own a smart phone. The only issue I have is that the paper tags are printed on plain computer paper which can be a problem on a rainy day. some places like Sportsman's Wearhouse will print them on write in the rain paper for 50 cents extra. Another issue, that I brought up with the game commission but didn't get any response, is that because the tags are plain paper one can scan it into their computer. Then they can go out and shoot an animal, tag it and take it home. If they don't get checked by anyone they can just print out a new tag and go do it all over again.

I print my AK tags on rain paper at home, so that’s one option.
