Tariffs and Potential Inflation

I thought I was the only one. Hope you do get that transplant.

That was exactly my point in the other post. We had a real lack of options on a good candidate. Same could be said pretty much every election I've voted in and progressively getting worse.
Genuine question, do you think anyone in the Democratic Party would’ve beat Trump (other than an out-of-left-field celebrity like the Rock or something)?

I think Kamala did a lot of the Republicans’ work for them when she provided all those sound bytes in her 2019 race to the left, but I kinda think the ceiling for mainstream democrats was still a loss with how fed up everyone was.

Parents worth their weight are always gonna care about bathrooms.
I agree mostly tho, but what's so ridiculous is you listen to the left now even after losing and anyone with a brain cell knows why they lost and they continue to say the same stuff and making it worse for themselves.

Can't make this crap up! Even the guy reading it is confused!

Please tell me that’s AI!?!? WTF! That party is lost in a rip tide and can’t swim their way out.

I was wondering if these might be on the table. If I put myself into a Canadian politician's shoes, I would be mulling an export tariff on those products.

If I were PM for a day, I would 100% hit the US with 25% increase on all natural energy sold from Canada south of the border.

Quebec is getting a tremendous amount of pressure from its citizens to not only increase the cost of hydro electricity they export, but to completely cut off the US from its grid.

This whole situation is ugly and absolutely unecessary. You and me will feel this in our wallets, not the Musks or Trumps of this world.

Most every incumbent government lost worldwide for the most part. No reason to overthink it.

Well cutting off hydro, LNG and crude are now officially on the table now. I guess 4.5 million homes and business's might not be watching the Superbowl now.
probably not gonna miss much anyway…..

In all seriousness, Trump is one of the few out there who tells you what he’s going to do and then actually does it.
He talked plenty pre-election about tariffs. One reason, in regards to Mexico, was to discourage more US companies from relocating manufacturing there for cheap labor. The rest of it is to slap train them into doing something with their border.

I don’t get Canada though. Seems like picking a needless fight with an ally. There is a hefty trade deficit with them though, and in my experience, getting goods out of Canada is way easier than selling into Canada. Maybe this will change that?

All in all, hopefully this trade war doesn’t last too long as it will negatively affect consumers. Which will make it harder for him to reverse the inflation he’s been crowing about for the last year and a half.

Praise the lord they make whiskey in Ennis
That is good stuff. Oddly, it seems some still prefer antifreeze.

I hope for a move back toward center for both parties, but am afraid stuff may need to break first. I struggle with the paradox of the vast number of people complaining about influencers ruining stuff and voting into office, for a second time, a celebrity influencer. Social media didn't kill as many brain cells as the antifreeze, but it sure killed critical thought.

Was it social media? But yeah it’s dead

Not sure social media is the cause, but it isn't helping. I recently watched an old Eddie Murphy stand up comedy routine from the 80's and he noted that he got negative feedback for making jokes about some groups. Today that would blow up on social media into something multiples larger, like Dave Chapelle faced. And the average person would overblow the importance of the news. SM seems to magnify everything, makes it difficult to separate fact from fiction, and lets people find someone who agrees with them regardless of how batshit crazy they may be.

Just about everywhere anymore.
Between that, local pigs, beef, chickens/ eggs, moon shine and produce Iv felt lucky to be fairly insulated from these food prices. Living in one of those expensive counties at that. More elk than a family can shoot

Does Canada have the ability to refine heavy sour crude?

I'm sure they do, since that is the crude most available to them. It happens they have far larger crude reserves than they need for their domestic demand.

Both sides of the border are at fault. Not just Canada. The facts are out there, our mutual border is open due to our long lasting relationship and criminals have taken advantage of it. But let's not pretend that this is a one sided issue.

CBP and other US agencies share a part of the blame for the flow of drugs, guns and illegal immigrants into Canada, some of whom have entered through the US/Mexico border and travelled all the way to the Canadian border.

I'm not arguing that there isn't a problem, there is and I see it in the streets of my small town and nearby cities; drugs, guns and all the crime that comes with it.

Just immagine if the roles were reversed and PM Justin Trudeau were going around talking crap about annexing the US or taking it by force. Now immagine if Trudeau's political lackies and fan base were all in on it and joking about a 13th Province and so on. Then, a week after taking office, JT slams 25% tariffs on Canadian goods because of border related issues...

I don't get it, Canada/US relationships went from good to bad in the matter of one Presidential inauguration. One thing I strongly believe in, is that some of those millionaire/billionaire bullies have never been punched in the face, and it shows.

Hey, you wankers better stop pumping all that fentanyl into our country or else!
Things getting crazy up there on that border I tell ya.

Yes I personally think so .They had options and stuck with Biden for whatever reason, and then as a last ditch effort they threw her in. They couldn't have handled that any worse if they tried imo. My question is why? I didn't get that one. They could've ran a more centered dem and had a pretty good chance imo. Putting Kamala up to bat was like bringing an empty gun to a gun fight. Personally, I don't think she would've made it if she was running against anyone. Trump or otherwise.

I have to humbly agree... although you guys are now distilling whiskey on-line this started about inflation. Too many dollars chasing too few products. I increased product and decreased the money supply in one fell swoop. I did my small part. Now carry on about how drunkenness is better if incurring less shipping cost.

Obviously if you don’t like Trump you are just a commie Biden loving democrat. Surely nobody else would have issues with him.
It's simply extremes... B.S. both sides. I agree, you may come across as a Biden loving Dem as I may come across as a Trump loving Repub. I believe neither of us are what is painted on this forum.
Parallels the art extreme politics. Neither listens to the other, just want to be heard. People of relative same mindset support each other and the middle fades.

That's the challenge. Two party system. First go, I placed my first write in. This time, not interested in Harris one bit to the extent it's voted Trump.
Says volumes that's the best D's had to offer. Lost to a "celebrity influencer"... that we already experienced.

Yet - D's can not get over their responsibility to represent a platform the majority of voting Americans can get behind.

Liberal extremism overshot the voters even in the face of a celebrity TV toon that's relatively on par with what he stumped upon.

D's need to examine their platform and pull on the reigns. They place a centralist vs twiddling D Harris, my vote may sway.

Meh, life of internet forums.
