I had a 93’ and a 99’ both 7.3 (93 was pre-power stroke, naturally aspirated). Both were the one tons (F350s), both 4Wd, both sticks. They were the best two trucks I’ve ever owned and I’ve owned a pickup since 1973! DO IT!!! Plus if it’s a Chief’s rig and he was anything like ours, the only thing you’ll have to replace is the front drivers side window motor…
up-down, up-down, so he could wave at us while we worked…

No but we just got budget approval to start looking for a new pumper truck so in about 2-3 years we will have a mid 80's GMC pumper truck for sale. We might have bought that one used but it has less than 20k on it, twin 454's, tandem axle, manual transmission.

Keep in mind, low MPG vehicle values tend to have negative correlation to the price of fuel over the long term. Now granted vehicle prices are sky high right now, but if high fuel prices are here to stay then you can expect the value of that pickup to go down.

Just an additional FYI though, that ‘93 I had CONSISTENTLY got 17-19mpg and that was for a 1-ton. I have not owned a pickup since that got that mileage, let alone with that size! Granted it was a stock stick, not rolling 37s with a lift, a tuner, and a cloud of black smoke poring out of it like 90% of the flat brimmed diesels on the road these days. (Mike drop, old guy out).
 
I got a Navy 65 F250 4x4 at an auction. $1200 and 60k miles. Everyone said it had been trashed. It had never left Pt.Hueneme base.

I sold it later with 565k on it. Never had a major drive train problem. $3000.

Wish I never sold it.
No problems? A Ford? Wow. One in a million. Dad bought a new '64 half ton with stick shift and straight six. The drive line vibrated so bad it seemed that thing would shake itself to pieces. Hauled it down to the dealership three times for driveline replacement. No improvement. That truck was a lemon with a capital "L".

Ah, and remember Ford's twin I-beam front suspension bullshit from that era? Couldn't keep tires on those outfits. Putting the front end into alignment actually required bending the suspension struts.

Sounds like the seat springs got more of a workout than the engine. 😄
 
I had a '97 F250. After about 2 years I think I was qualified to take the Ford master mechanics test. hahaha. I'd not have one given to me but also recognize I could have had one that was beat to piss before I got it. I sent it down the road with 165K on it.
 
1996 Ford F350 4wd diesel with 95,000miles and bedcap. Former Fire dept. vehicle

Those are good engines. Gonna ride rough as hell but if your familiar to large trucks then you'll live. If your getting a good prices you will be happy with it.

Of the trucks that I remember as kiddo, our Farm truck was a 92 ford f350 gasser then later a 99 f250 diesel cause the potted trees we grew were getting freakin heavy. I believe he had fords before that and his dad before him had fords. (whom of which got a dodge as he retired for the ride quality)

Then dad retired in 2009 when I left for the military and he got a ram 1500 for the comfort. :ROFLMAO: has had 6 of those in the last 12 years...

So if history stays course ill end up with a dodge something when I retire (if that ever happens).

I'm on my 4th Ford truck. They have all been good and reliable.
Had a 52 Chebby & 50 jimmy 3/4t & a couple dodge bros. 1927 & 1963. Worked on them constantly.

2 65's ,one with the f-100 I beams and the other the 250 4x4. Sold the 65 100 to a collector.
The 4x4 to a rancher buddy,still running around the county my bro says.
I replaced clutches & some bearings, seals, brakes along the way. The usual stuff. Rebuilt the tranny when it was out and it only needed bearings & seals. Changed the oil religiously.

The only truck more reliable for me has been Toyota. I have had 2. The 1st had 500k+ on it too and still going.


Must be an attitude thing...LOL

Forgot had 2 GMC stakeside flatbeds that were good trucks.10 wheeler cabovers, v6 magnums. Traded some saws & a ramset for the 2. Just needed batteries & ignition locksets.
