Filled my Anterless (greenfield) Elk tag in North Idaho today. There are days when I wonder how much longer I will be able to keep doing this. Then there are days like today where everything clicks. I felt like I could run packing out the last load. (I didn't)
I had gotten into them this morning in the thick jungle. I bumped them and tracked them out to where they were crossing open ground. There were a ton of tracks there in the heavy dust. I set a pin and backed out.
I was on my way back in to the spot for an ambush tonight and walked right in to the herd about 400 yards from where I had marked the tracks earlier. One neck shot and done. 1/4 mile pack back to the truck.
Headed back to the woodshed to get the meat hung, skinned, and cooled. I'll get started cutting and wrapping tomorrow.
