Suppressor Use by Minor

A 16yo can not legally possess a NFA item. You would have to be close enough to be considered in control of the item.

Around here we don't worry about such things, but every where is different. You know your local LE and should abide accordingly.

I know several people who have brought back suppressors from Africa. They just call them "muzzle devices". Maybe that's what you could tell the game warden if he asks.
Meaning they purchased muzzle devices in Africa and checked them through to home? Interesting.

Laws are stricter for the NFA items. The suppressor is supposed to be in possession or in close proximity of an approved owner. The owner is required to have the tax stamp on them as proof of approval by the ATF.

You can’t just let your kid use the suppressor when not in an approved person’s presence.
"can't" is pretty strong wording. "Shouldn't, according to some people's interpretation of the law" would be more accurate.

You can make your wording argument to the ATF agent. The law is clear.
can you cite the law you are referring to? I'm trying to find it and can't. I also don't see anything in the WI state laws that specifically address this item and it is state law that typically handles gun related laws.

No. You can Google it. It would be a federal law. It’s part of the whole indoctrination when you fill the ATF paperwork out to get approved.

If the 17 MN shooter had a suppressor on his rifle, the owner of the suppressor would have had criminal charges by the ATF.

Yes. Not legal or advisable but many have been doing it. Many S African outfitters are pushing their clients to use suppressors. They are cheap in Africa.
I think the $200 stamp is cheap as compared to legal issues with ATF and probably State Department for bringing in prohibited weapons from out of country.

You need to be looking at federal law. Something that people don't realize is that any crime committed with a NFA item (suppressor) automatically turns into a federal offense....
