Given all the unpleasant discussions, how about something different. This morning the cow elk brought their calves out for the first time. There were four bulls at the house and in the adjacent field were thirty head of cows and calves. As the migration to the forest ensued a few calves had difficulty getting through the fence. As they squeaked their frustration, the cows barked orders, the bulls bugled and the valley echoed the elk orchestra.

Saw 30 cows with calves on the way home just now,at the windmill tank up the road. BLM.

Our last snow storm was two weeks ago. The cows usually don't calve until after the last storm.

Lots of small groups of cows & spikes. Momma has cleared the milk sack...lol.

My wife keeps track of the last snowstorm on the calendar and the when the calves show up. Over the last 34 years, the last snow is within 2 days each year of the same time. The calves show up shortly after. Life at 6700ft.

We saw numerous cows and calves on a parturition area in the northern Bighorn Mountains on June 4. Calves can usually start to be seen in the area during the last week in May.

Given the variability of calves, I have found the peak of the rut at and about Sept 21. When do you folks see it?
