Too the OP.... those are some nice Owyhee bucks! the one on the R. goes about 185, the one on the L. is significantly smaller, maybe goes 150. Draw a tag in the unit?

Main beam length diff. Extra point on the main beam diff. Back fork diff. Lots of inches deducted from left to right. Difference in brow tine length. Mass difference. Plus there’s a 2” cheater in the back of one of the antlers that digs into the ear. All deductions on a typical scoresheet. I’ll dig up the paper from the measure guy.

6 inches of abnormal points
That’s 184.


They don’t add the abnormal points but they subtract it from the total. So net typical is

78
80
20
-11 of abnormal point inches, difference in tine length and mass gives you 167


Not a wide or heavy deer but 13.4/8” and 12.2/8” G4s are rare.



I could have entered him as a non typical but he cleared the minimum mark more as a typical. That’s why the Burris buck still stands. Most big main frame deer have enough extra points, and difference in mass and tine length that it just murders the net typical score.

I wouldn’t try to justify the score of that buck to anyone. Just the front forks on that buck give him 10” to 15” over an average forked buck.

The OP buck on the right is wider and longer beams, maybe heavier than this deer. This deer is 174”, just for reference.

Was it officially measured?

I guess I'm just guessing like everyone else, and it's often tough from photographs. However, I've officially measured A LOT of mule deer over the years and my instincts tell me the OP mule deer on the right has a short left G4, a short right G2, and 1" G1's.......average mass (he's in velvet) and average beams and G3's.......adds up to a buck that will probably net in the 160's. But heck, I hope he finds him and shoots him and proves me wrong.
