I have a week of vacation the last week of September. I have a decent chance of drawing wyoming antelope but I'd like to have some options of other animals or states to hunt or fish if I don't draw. I prefer diy. Any suggestions ? Im open to about anything Thanks

I love antelope hunting but the last week of September can get pretty amazing in Alaska. Skip all the bull shit on the road system, get out to the Alaska Peninsula; 5lb Grayling, 30 inch rainbows and 15 pound Arctic Char are in a feeding frenzy. The salmon are done, though you might catch an edible silver, most years it’s getting cold, ice in the morning is not unheard of, bugs are still available but not bad. Bears are every where.
It was always one of my favorite weeks to guide, easy to put people on fish, other than cold, the weather was typically sunny and it was the last of about 120 days straight days of guiding.
Enjoy your vacation.

If not big game, one of my favorite trips is fishing for a mixed bag and floating for those big fox squirrels found in Mizzou, Arkansas , and Oklahoma. Lots of public ground and water to fish and float. Crappie, striped bass and large mouth are my favorites.

Texohoma is another lake I try to hit annually for striped bass, lots of options around there for striped bass and hog hunting.

As mentioned Alaska would be fun. Some areas Silver Salmon are still running strong.

If you like fly fishing several states can be good and less crowded since it’s hunting season.

You could also look for any leftover or returned Archery Elk tags. Do research on the unit first to make sure it’s not a unit with no access or something. Also consider some upland hunting in various states.

Gunflint trail in extreme NE Minnesota for grouse, snowshoe hare, and casting from shore for bass. Frogs and frog-like bait in the shallows can be good at twilight that time of year. There are also some cool hike-in trout streams in the area.

Yes, Phil Byrd; Lava Creek Lodge. Worked with him quite a bit over the last 20 years. Hell of a good operator with a fantastic location. He is south of Ugashik so there is almost no competition. Probably has the best operation for swinging up a King Salmon on a fly rod left in Alaska.
Kate and Justin Krump own “The Lodge at 58N” That’s our old place. They bought it 3 years ago, totally remodeled it and run a first class operation. I know all their guides and they are gifted. They are on the fabled Naknek river 8 miles out of King Salmon. Best location on the river. I worked with them quite a bit over the last 20 years as well, no one knows the region around Katmai better than they do.
I would go with Phil, it’s just much more remote.
