Stripped down Rem 700 receiver

My wife has fond memories of her first deer rifle, an old Remington 600 in .243. I decided to build her a rifle as close to the specs and feel of that old gun as I could get, only left-handed. So after searching far and wide I got a hold of a serviceable LH stripped down short action Remington 700 receiver. Not new, the barrel has been removed, and the problem I'm running into is the adhesive Remington uses at the factory when they barrel an action. The receiver has some crud in the threads that is proving to be a little stubborn. Anybody know of some adhesive remover that might get this stuff out? I'm thinking acetone, but I figured I'd ask as surely I'm not the first one to run into this.

What color is the stuff? If it’s Red (possibly loc-tite red), try adding some local heat to soften the material first.

Methylethylketone (MEK).

Note, it IS a known carcinogen.
And will rapidly deteriorate rubber gloves.

Give it a soak in acetone, then hit it with a wire wheel in a dremel. Give a couple wraps of electrical tape to the outside of the action for protection while your wheelin'.

The nylon wheel work too, but not as well.

What I was going to say. I buy cheap ADLs when I find them on sale, strip them down and send them off for blueprinting. Open up the threads .010, that takes care of that crap on the threads.
