I love this time of year, especially the fall colors. I was pleasantly surprised when I looked down to see a wild strawberry. They are absolutely the best tasting wild berry you can find, but this late in the year, I could only find one…

They taste pretty good. I like Oregon grapes also

I had a patch outside my garden that was native. A handfull of those tiny babys would bring out the real strawberry flavor in pies and jam.

Unless you have eaten wild strawberries, you don’t know what you are missing. There is as much flavor in that tiny strawberry as there is in a big garden variety.

My mother and I used to pick them around the cabin and then make strawberry jam and strawberry shortcake. It took hours to pick enough for a singl jar of jam…

On one very memorable hike in NE Washington, we hit the berries just right and one of the old logging roads we were walking down was LOADED with huckleberries and wild strawberries. I mean I have never seen so many strawberries in one stretch. Definitely produced like a bear that night.
