So two years ago my Leica 10x42s became somewhat saturated in doe estrogen. Long story, but yes...I'm laughing right along with you. Anyhow, to this day they still smell. Looking for ideas on removing the odor. I'm taking them on the brown bear hunt with me this weekend and at this point they will be dangling from my neck. I tried a brand of scent eliminator after it happened, but don't recall what type...didn't work though.

You could send them back to leica a get an R&R on them it is to late for this year. Mine are getting it done now it has been about 10 weeks and they sould be done soon, parts on back order.

Try some of the Primos Silver xp scent eliminator spray. I used it on my truck seats that had some rotten spoiled milk spilled on them from my kids sippy cup. I couldn't believe that it could get rid of that nasty smell in the fabric, but it did. I am a total believer. I hope that wasn't the brand you already tried but if it wasn't I would for sure give it a shot.

I just bought a farm with a log cabin in Arkansas and the walls were covered in Nicotine. Here is what took the Nicotine and smell off and out of the walls. Try One Cup Vinagar, one cup Amonia with one cup of Baking soda along with some warm water. Mix together and go at it! Good Luck, John

Atleast your sniffer works. We had a guy that drove everyone nuts, so we put elk urine in his hardhat. He didn't even notice!!! Good luck.

Was it Robert Duvall who said, "I love the smell of code blue in the morning."?

You could try using some Nature's Own Miracle Odor Remover. When My dog got into a skunk putting it on full strength immediately removed the odor. It's designed to remove urine odor as well.

Be a man ,sleep with them around your neck with a pocketknife in your hand.

The object of going bear hunting is to find and get close to bears right?

I'm purty sure I wouldn't take ammonia any where near my optics. I'm pretty sure that it damages the coatings.

No advice, but- hahahhahahahhahaha....
That sucks man, hope you find something.

Went w/ Lawnboy's advice. Overall, it did okay, but the smell is still there. Thanks for the bones guys....probably will have to take Dinkshooter's advice for now, then check in to see what Leica can do for me when I get back.

Ovis, Just thought of this as well. Cat pee is pretty nasty stuff so maybe this recipe would work as well. It's close to what Draftstud recommended. This is obviously for carpets and you'll have to adapted it some but thought it was worth a shot. Straight from the web. Good luck

Directions for Cat Urine Removal from carpets

Homemade Cat Urine Recipe1. If the cat has recently urinated on the carpet, first absorb as much of the cat urine as possible using paper towels or an old towel. Place clean paper towels over the cat urine area and tread on them so as to absorb as much of the urine as possible. Repeat with dry towels until no more moisture can be absorbed.

2. Next, wet the area with a solution of 50% white vinegar and 50% water. Make sure you use enough of the solution to penetrate the fibers deep down. Allow it to almost dry. You can assist drying by blotting with paper towels as described above. If you own a wet and dry vacuum extractor use that to remove excess moisture.

3. Apply a handful of baking soda over the affected area and drizzle it with a quarter of a cup of hydrogen peroxide mixed with a teaspoon of liquid dishwashing detergent. (not caustic detergent that you put in a dishwasher) Work it in with a scrubbing brush or your fingers (be sure to wear rubber gloves) to dissolve the baking soda and work it down into the carpet. Allow it to dry. Then vacuum.

That's all there is to it. It's as simple as that. 1-2-3 cat pee smell gone. It really does work.

Lawnboy, what in the world are you doing up at 4:26 AM posting remedies?

I'd try taking them down to the car wash and pressure wash them to see just how water tight they are. Then I'd follow Lawnboy's cat pee removal system.

I had to get up and check the web cam to see if the snow was sticking in town. Man I hate plowing snow:mad: I"m over this nasty snowy spring we are having. On the flip side I had 15 elk just outside the window this morning. They are laying down about 150 yards from the house right now. My 3 year old had his plastic binos and gun out this morning looking them over. I got some good video and picts.

I think its safe to say; you got yourself a future 'hunting buddy' there:D?!

Moe;)

I seem to have a problem when hunting with my dad in that I can start smelling elk butt. I mean he is always finding elk crap and then he starts thowing it, stomping in it, smearing it on your clothes and he even puts it in his pockets. He figures its all for the cause. Perhaps he is the guy to try and sell your stinky binos to.
