DANR, much like the steelhead are salmon debate; steelhaed are salmon, but not all salmon are steelhead, rainbow trout are salmon, but not all salmon are trout. Or, do you have a link to a definition that says trout are excluded from being salmon? :D :D :D

I though steelhead and atlantic salmon were different. Last time I fished in NY the possession limits were 3 salmoniods 15 inches long,(coho,chinook,brown trout and steelhead). Laketrout had a slot,25 to 30 inches and had to go back. Atlantic salmon had to be 24 inches long. I didn't fish last year so the limits might have changed.
 
Alantic salmon are basically is like a silver salmon but on the eastren side of the usa, I never heard them called steel head before.
