MY OPINION: Sounds like the little Dutch boy sticking his thumb in the dam a little too late.New York-AP -- The top legal officers of eight states and New York City have brought the issue of global warming to federal court.
They filed a lawsuit against five of the biggest electric power companies in the country, demanding that they be ordered to cut carbon dioxide emissions.
New York attorney general Eliot Spitzer says carbon dioxide is "the culprit" in global warming. He says the case demonstrates that the companies are contributing to global warming, and that warming is threatening severe harm to (m) millions of state residents.
The suit seeks no monetary damages.
The companies say individual firms shouldn't be held responsible for global climate change.
The five companies being sued produce about ten percent of the nation's carbon dioxide emissions.
