This is another of our videos to try give more information about the effort to liquidate and privatize our Federal lands. This one explains State Land Boards, their history, how they operate, and why State Land Boards are the chosen conduit for the groups wanting to see your Federal lands liquidated.

State Land is NOT Public Land | Fresh Tracks Weekly (Ep. 84)

Watched this morning; very enlightening. It's nice when someone else does the research for you, especially when they're trustworthy! There are a number of folks that haven't heard anything about this, and this series of Fresh Tracks' discussions is a good place to get a feel for what is going on. So many states have boxed themselves in a corner, and it appears they're searching for a solution to their funding problems. Scary to think acquiring our federal lands is being looked at as a solution. History suggests they'll be sold, and that doesn't bode well for any outdoor recreationists

Hello there! I saw this in the chronicle this morning. Thought it a relevant item for people to be aware of and to scrutinize the merits of.

Below is the into. Sounds like he needs to pay more to lease the land.

“Tucked deep into a Republican-backed bill to revise state water laws is a one-sentence section that would require the state to sell isolated school trust lands, and the land’s water right, to the lessee.

“I rented a piece of state land up until about five years ago that was landlocked,” said House Speaker Brandon Ler, R-Savage, sponsor of House Bill 676.

He was speaking during the bill’s first hearing before the House Judiciary Committee in March.

“I offered to buy that state land for roughly $80,000, and you know what I paid for that land every year? $200,” he said. “So I would have given them a check for 400 years of money in one year to buy that state land when it was landlocked.”

Why would he do that? I suppose the property tax could be nominally cheaper but i doubt a couple hundred dollars moves the needle much.

“The bill specifies that the land board must sell those parcels to the lessee,” Thomas said. “So that would seem to indicate that there won’t be a public sale. It would be a captive sale. And the question would be, how do you set the full market value of that in a noncompetitive environment?”

Nevermind 😃! Im sure the sales will be great.

Anyway here's another excerpt from the article i thought was intriguing:

“When a producer drills the well, the state doesn’t own the pump, the casing, the sand screen; they don’t have any of the cost into that well,” Ler said. “So this bill reaches out to say that the state land board cannot take any private water right that is, you know, the water that is being used on the state land. That is private water.”

My understanding was that the deep discount public land is leased at is partially because of this - you cant keep or get compensation for improvements. Curious where the moneys going to come back to pay landowners for fences/wells/etc and why anyone thinks this is just.

Very informative. When a state says they are "only seeking control of federal lands because we can manage them better and don't worry we won't sell them, etc" the obvious question to ask is, why aren't existing state lands already public access for hunting, camping, etc? Doesn't pass the smell test.
