State Land in Jackson, WY headed for auction

Hope that area gets developed into homes and apartments ,so more people can enjoy the area's natural beauty.

And those terrific indiscriminate Wyoming wildfires.

640 acres in Jackson Hole appraised at $62 million. Pretty good deal actually! I think the LWCF will cover the appraised value and then other donations, mostly through the Grand Teton National Park Foudnation will cover the rest.

Land may be a good deal though what about the tiny little yellow blip give to the Wildlife? We know, or some may not believe it at this time, this is not defined for hunting. This is a tiny addition to GTNP. That's it.

I don't see the value our LWCF funds (68mil) spent on a valuable manner that benefits wildlife, or... if for visitors, that's a few people maybe hiking into or through that tiny yellow blip each year...

Better areas 68mil could be spent in WY or elsewhere for wildlife with much more bang for the buck, least imo.

I've yet to read an article that finds w/o this section it severs a main wildlife passage or other value.

Looks like it's a done deal so more power to WY schools. That's the benefit. Even though this would be gained private or public sale.

Yes it is a small piece sold to GTNP, but it is bordered on all sides by public land and hunting is allowed in all of those areas currently and will continue with this sale. While it is a lot of money, it is hard to say that this parcel going to GTNP won't benefit wildlife. All manner of wildlife species move through that parcel - elk, mule deer, bison, etc. And, the Path of the Pronghorn goes through that area as well. Development of it could certainly have impacts for that migration. I personally drive through that parcel a handful of times a year to camp, fish, etc.

No doubt $68 million will go a lot further in other parts of Wyoming, but there is also much less political will to transfer land to the federal government in other parts of the state.

Also, if memory serves, LWCF money doesn't necessarily have to benefit wildlife - it has been used for public parks, baseball fields, etc.
