Since you all were so helpful when @Irrelevant had a bonus…
I get my yearly bonus end of 1st quarter and it was a good year. After taxes, adulting obligations, and family stuff I’ve got $1500 in the squirrel fund to have fun with. For me, fun means guns/hunting gear.
I picked up a tikka T3x SS .22-250 1:8 twist this winter after selling a rifle. It needs to go see @p_ham for a bob/thread job. I’ve already got a Stocky’s VGS ordered and on the way. Here’s the dilemma - do I keep it a .22-250, or since it’s there already do I go all in and tickle it with a reamer to an AI, or even further to a .22 Creed? The other side of the coin is if there’s no chamber work (already have brass/dies) I’d potentially have enough jingle in my pocket for a new can.
So option #1 is keep it .22-250, cut/thread + DA Nomad TI can or new can about to hit the market.
Option #2 is .22-250 AI, uses same brass but I would need new dies, remaining budget wouldn’t be enough for a new can, open to options for what’s left.
Option #3 is .22 Creed, need new brass/dies, and even less remaining.
My thinking is keep it a .22-250, brass/dies are already a sunk cost, and barrel life will be longer. I can play with a wildcat once I toast the barrel and have to replace. Plus a second (and better) can would be a nice add.
