I am interested in hunting mule deer in Custer National Forest. There is several tracts of land within Custer National Forest, but the many roads makes wonder or road hunters. Is there other tracks of W.I.L. in Harding County ou might suggest I look into? Perhaps west of west of US85 / north of SD20 ?

South Dakota has one of the best game and fish websites which has basically Google Earth with a public land/ walk-in area overlays. When I lived in hot springs, success rates were lower in the park as well as deer numbers. Lots of mountain lions. Areas around Wall, SD have been producing big bucks the last few years. Not a lot of help but if I was still in SD, that's where I would wanna be.

Custer Nat'l Forest has some neat land but as you note lots of roads. Unfortunately that makes it accessible to the road hunters. Look at the maps and find some public / walk in areas at least one mile from access points (eg roads), that's where I'd start.

Hunted it for years, to many roads. I would head north of belle to some of the larger public areas. Just be aware of the muck when wet.
