I can tell you when I was a kid Dad would pull up to the gas station to get a pack of camels and gas up the beater with $2, and they washed the windshield and checked the oil.

At that time $3.50 was about 10 gallons of gas. Now at $3.09/gallon would turn the similar wage into $31.00/hour, which isn’t that far out of line for today, when your average burger flipper is $18.00/hour and unskilled labor is probably $25.00/hour…
